The doctor is out. The USA Network series, Royal Pains, will be ending after its upcoming eighth season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy-drama stars Mark Feuerstein as an ER doctor who relocates to the Hamptons as an on-call physician for wealthy clients. The series also stars Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, Campbell Scott, Ben Shenkman, and Henry Winkler.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a complete shock. Ratings for Royal Pains have decreased over the past few seasons, with the last season only receiving an average of around 1.45 million viewers per episode.
Additionally, we reported earlier that the series’ lead, Feuerstein, has been cast in FOX’s upcoming Prison Break reboot series.
The final and eighth season of Royal Pains will premiere on May 18th at 10 p.m. It will include the series’ 100th episode and a special musical episode with Cloris Leachman.
From showrunners Andrew Lenchewski and Michael Rauch, in a press statement:
It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets as Royal Pains comes to an end. We couldn’t have imagined a more talented and dedicated writers’ room, cast, or crew, and we couldn’t have asked for better partners than USA Network and Universal Cable Productions. We want to thank Bonnie Hammer, Chris McCumber, Jeff Wachtel and every other member of our network and studio family for tirelessly supporting us over eight magical seasons, and more importantly, for giving us the opportunity to complete this series on our own terms. We’ll always have The Hamptons.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Royal Pains? Are you sad to see it go? Will you watch the last season?
Royal pains it’s one of the great shows on TV. We will wait all season for it to come back on at which time USA gives at five or six episodes and it goes away for another year. It’s failure is because USA doesn’t make enough shows for a season and should have two seasons fall and spring. It’s a great show!
Love the show watched it every season . Very sorry to see it go. Wish you could reconsider. Very few worthwhile shows on TV that was a very nice little break in the season to watch that. Work on keeping it thank you.

Sorry to see Royal Pains go I enjoyed the show
Say it ain’t so!!! I love this show!!!
Awe I will miss royal pains. I don’t have cable but I watch it on Netflix and always wait patiently for the next season. I love all the characters. I’m sad to hear it was cancelled. Now I will have to ration the last episodes to make it last as long as I can. Well done, royal pains gets a standing novation from this chick.
Well said…I’ll stand too. Great show,
Will REALLY miss this show…always looked forward to each new season
enjoyed the characters. Nice clean drama. will be sorry to see it end.
I am very sad to hear that Royal Pains will be ending this summer. If it wasn’t on at such a late time it would probably do better, also they took the show from a story about a emotionally wounded ER doctor and made it about the Hamptons and intrigue. Bring the show back to it’s origins and you will get your ratings back, the storylines went too off track. Your crazy season structure is the cause for losing viewers, we never know when a show is actually airing. Back in January to Feb then on July, it’s nuts and… Read more »
Loved this show, I will really miss it, but like others. how did anyone know when it was on with such a crazy schedule
I really enjoy this show. It’s so rare to find shows with no violence, sex, drugs, etc. But of course the ratings were low; not only are the shows glorifying those things popular, but who could ever figure out when this show was on? It, along with most USA series, spends most of it’s time in hiatus, so we don’t realize it’s back on or can’t figure out WHEN it’s on. Crazy season structures.
DON”T CANCEL!!!!! This is such an enjoyable show – characters are great – scenery fantastic…. USA RETHINK your decision!
I just found out about the cancellation of royal pains, very disappointing. It is an informative show.,The concept, writing, and the acting has been enjoyable and it’s very sad that a show which “hits” all levels of entertainment without violence, but with intelligence, isn’t reinforced by USA.
Every show doesn’t have to be an award recipient to be valuable. Glad there’s at least a season to wrap it up, but this was a very poor decision by USA!
Well said!
I swear i thought this show was cancelled years ago…
That’s too bad. To be honest, I didn’t realize it was still on. I was a loyal viewer, via Hulu. When they stopped carrying it, I quit watching.
I CANNOT BELIEVE YOUR ENDING ROYAL PAINS. THAT’S A GREAT SHOW. I WOULD LIKE IT TO GO ON. AS OTHER GREAT SHOWS IT’S GOING IN THE TRASH. PRETTY SOON I WILL HAVE NO REASON THE WATCH EITHER USA OR TNT. CBS IS ALMOST OFF MY LINEUP.
SO TRUE!!! TOO MANY DARK AND DEPRESSING SHOWS ON TV THESE DAYS THAT, FOR SOME REASON, THEY’RE KEPT ON AIR. THIS WAS SUCH A FUN, EDUCATIONAL (RIGHT?) AND YES, MELLOW SHOW TO WATCH.
