AMC has decided to cancel Rubicon after one season of 13 episodes.
Billed as a conspiracy thriller, Rubicon is set in a government intelligence agency where nothing is as it seems. The cast includes James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges, Arliss Howard, and Miranda Richardson.
The TV show was previewed back in June and attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.07 million viewers. When the series officially kicked off in August, the demo dropped to a 0.3 rating with 1.9 million viewers. The demo dropped to a 0.2 after that and the whole season averaged a 0.3 rating and 1.25 million viewers.
That wasn’t enough for AMC to want a second season and the cable channel has now cancelled the series.
Of the cancellation decision, AMC released the following statement, “Rubicon’ gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally talented and dedicated team.”
The 13th and final episode of Rubicon aired on October 17th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that it’s been cancelled? What would you liked to have seen in season two?

What a really great program!!
As is usually the case with shows that require
the viewer to actually think about what
they’re watching, it was no surprise AMC
pulled the plug.
Shame on you AMC.
Devastated. My girlfriend and I have been telling everyone to watch Rubicon. Many people I know have been watching it, and love it! Atmospheric, like a Graham Greene novel. AMC, this is very disappointing. Best new show canceled! What if Seinfeld would have been canceled after year one? Followings make it to good shows.
Finally something really worth watching again and it gets cancelled… I loed this for the great cinematography, the intriguing and intelligent story line… cos it allowed for silence and discomfort….
should have know it would get axed 🙁
Quite disappointed in seeing Rubicon end. Ever since I saw the first preview for it back in June I was very excited to watch the show. Then it completely exceeded my expectations. I can see why it may not have had the broad appeal of other shows, but there should have been some way to keep it around. 🙁
How about a single 2Hr finale… this show is too good to consign to the waste bin.
I am SO disappointed. This shop was one of the few truly interesting new shows with a very talented cast. Rumor has it that the viewers were not YOUNG enough. That’s insulting to viewers both young and old!
I agree, a two hour finale is in order. It would have to be faster paced, but it would be nice to tie up loose ends. I guess I won’t invest my time in AMC series, since they can’t commit to new shows.
I am so disappointed Rubicon has been cancelled. That was one good show that kept me coming back every week. Too bad, AMC, I thought you were different all those ‘rag’ tv stations. You gave up something good.
I can’t believe there will not be a second season Rubicon! With all the pabulum currently on television you’d think they could find a spot for such an intelligent, thought provoking, not to mention entertaining series. How sad.
Guess I’ll turn the TV off and read a book on Sunday nights.
So sorry not to be able to find out what was coming next. It was a compelling show that got better and better. Too bad AMC chickened out.
What would I have liked to see in season two? Thirteen more episodes.
Rubicon was a gem and it’s a real shame it wasn’t picked up.
My whole family was looking forward to season two of Rubicon when we learned
that it was being cancelled. What a bummer. With an excellent story line and cast–it
was about the best thing on television. Can’t you rethink your decision, and bring it
back? With all the drivel thats on tv–this show really stood out.
Sincerely—Joan Salvati
I’m so, so sad to hear that Rubicon got cancelled. My parents and I watched it together (albeit 16o miles apart from each other). We discussed during commercials and after the final credits rolled. Everyone I know who watched it was hooked. I am so tired of quality shows being cancelled and insipid shows sticking around (i.e. 2 1/2 men). Just because there are few of us who understand and appreciate quality shows doesn’t mean you should cancel them. Cater to us…we can become your “bread and butter”! You leave us intelligent people no choice but to rent movies, read… Read more »
Watching Rubicon was like playing chess every Sunday night.
I’m really disappointed…this show was really wonderful..great acting..very intelligent show!! I guess the general population out there is just too ignorant to appreciate good televisions when they see it!! They’d rather watch these stupid reality shows!!
Gutted about the cancellation. I thought Rubicon was really well done overall, and I was really looking forward to seeing where it was going in a second season. Not one person I know who watched it didn’t fall in love with it and the characters such as Spangler and Kale. I think this is huge mistake to cut it now, when much like the Wire, it’s the sort of show which was going to build a larger audience through DVD catchup and good word of mouth (in exactly the same way that Mad Men did also). As it stands, by… Read more »
Finally get a great and interesting TV show and now it is cancelled.
I’d still like to believe that Rubicon would revive all of sudden or out of blue and be coming to us sooner or later. The whole story plot has been wonderful and developed in a gorgeous way. I am so sorry to hear that the Rubicon season 2 is cancelled. I hope some network company stands up to pick up this show.
