The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Without any doubt, this season’s diamond in the rough. Writing is excellent, acting is excellent, the best show on tv right now for anyone with a functional brain.
Rubicon is my favorite show on tv in a long time – and I’m a Mad Men fan. Smart, tense, well-acted, great characters and incredible timing. Kale Ingram is the most exciting and interesting character on tv, maybe ever. I almost can’t believe they wouldn’t renew it, but I suppose that kind of programming decision is why I watch so little tv.
Anything worthwhile takes time to develop, to nurture it into a full bloom and growth. The same is true about Rubicon, and I’m not saying this just because my daughter is one of their show writers. It is not your everyday, dumbed-down, television series. My daughter, Nichole, became spoon-fed politics by her father, David Beattie, starting when she was four years old. Obviously other writers understand what’s going on in the world as well. The dialogue (or lack of too much of it), the characterization, the “Rubick Cube Plot” — all of it adds up to a must-have for at… Read more »
Yes, please bring “Rubicon” back for a second season. It is a pleasure watching a drama which is well written with dialog delivered by capable and convincing actors. If in deed “Rubicon” is renewed for a second season, Will Travers and Kale Ingram will have to prove Truxton Spangler duplicity as well as dodge bullets from contracted assasins. Since it is not known how well Truxton Spangler has protected himself against exposure, it might take more than a second season to bring him to justice. At the same time Wheeler might prove to be a problem for Spangler, if Spangler… Read more »
Renew! RubiCON has become my favorite show. I’ve watched every episode twice and hooked both my mother and son during the marathon. Great atmosphere and character development. The writing is taut – no boring exposition. I feel I’m being treated like an adult for a change while watching this show.
AMC – give it another season – please!
It is such a smart and interesting show. Please keep it on!
Love it!
Count me in the “current favorite show” category. I mourned the passing of LOST, and Rubicon has more than compensated as an engaging serial.
BUT my fellow Rubicon fans should know that the show runner stated that, should they be renewed for a second season, the episodes would be more self-contained than serialized. But it makes sense. They can’t come up with a new construct of conspiracy every season.
Rubicon was written about before it aired in the local newspaper of the city I live in. If I had not read that article, I may have missed the best show on television that I have seen in a very long time. It simply is mesmerizing and I hope it runs a very long time.
Rubicon has become my favorite show over the last 12 weeks. For me it has passed Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire as my front runners. It took patience and weekly time investment, watching episodes multiple times some weeks, but I think all the time invested by the writers in the character development is now paying lasting dividends. I now have developed an interest in the entire cast and like where the show is going. I can only hope the series will be renewed as it is the best new show out there.
A must-renew show! By far the most compelling thing on TV at the moment, with outstanding characters, well cast, that just get richer every episode. Finally, we have a show in this genre that dares to be smart, and gives credit to viewers’ intelligence! Hoping that the “Backstage” word on renewal is accurate — it would be an enormous disappointment if AMC were to drop this show.
Rubicon is my favorite TV program. A friend of mine says that she doesn’t know what she will do with me if Episode #13 ends with a cliffhanger because I won’t be able to wait for Season 2 if there is one. I’ve watched every episode so far three or four times each looking for clues that I might have missed the first time. I also think the acting is excellent. Love the characters.
My sentiments exactly!
Please Keep this show— Excellent writing, acting with afantastic plot.
This is the first AMC series I am hooked on!
Keep it! It’s a thinking person’s show, not the usual spoon-feed that most of the brain-dead American public seems to thrive on.
My favorite show! Definitely a thinking person’s show. This show is so appealing I have watched the episodes several times on ON DEMAND. Hopefully it will be with us a long long time.
