CBS execs are no doubt glad that they made the deal to renew this venerable sitcom. It was initially scheduled for Saturday nights but was shifted to Thursdays after the failure of How to Be a Gentleman. Compared to the season six debut of Rules, the show is up by 16% in the demo. Rules aired on Mondays and Thursdays last year. The nine episodes that aired in this Thursday timeslot averaged a 2.5 in the demo with 8.47 million.

Reference point: The 2010-11 season averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.56 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

I can’t even believe anyone would consider cancelling this show, it’s the funniest show on TV. Shows like Mike & Molly and Two Broke Girls are considered better than Rules of Engagment? Seriously?

This is without a doubt the funniest show I have seen since friends. The actors ALL play well off of each other and it would be a huge mistake to cancel. If CBS doesn’t pick back up another network should!
