Though the networks are overflowing with reality series this summer, there are some new scripted TV shows. One is Saving Hope, a medical series that NBC has licensed from Canada. Will this one stick around or be cancelled instead?
As Saving Hope begins, a hospital’s charismatic Chief of Surgery (Michael Shanks) suffers a massive brain hemorrhage on his wedding day and ends up in a coma. This leaves the hospital in chaos and his fiance and fellow surgeon (Erica Durance) in a state of shock. It doesn’t help matters that her former boyfriend (Daniel Gillies) — also a brilliant surgeon — has arrived to work at the same facility. Others in the cast include Michelle Nolden, K. C. Collins, Kristopher Turner, Julia Taylor Ross, Ben Ayres, Huse Madhavji, Salvatore Antonio, and Glenda Braganza.
In terms of the ratings, Saving Hope debuted on June 7th with a disappointing 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.24 million total viewers. It ranked in a distant fourth place, garnering less than half of what CBS drew with a second place repeat of Person of Interest. It was truly a terrible performance.

The following week, the demo remained the same and the viewership grew slightly, to 3.98 million. It was in fourth place in the demo once again.
Of the eight summer programs that NBC has been airing this summer, Saving Hope is dead last and is doing even worse than the network’s Rock Center with Brian Williams. On our summer ratings report card, the show has an “F” grade.
While NBC is likely paying very little money to air Saving Hope, the ratings are so poor that there seems to be no reason for the network to bring it back for a second season. The show could continue in Canada however so, if that happens, US viewers could potentially be able to see future episodes if NBC drops it.
But, what do you think? Do you like Saving Hope? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Definitely a keeper. Nice to have a show that concentrates on the positive and the hopeful and is not full of negativity and depression.
Keep it!!! I started watching NBC again because of the show.
And That’s a Yes All the Way Yes! Are you kidding? Keep #SavingHope and hope for a 2nd season and more seasons to come!
#SavingHope is far the best medical drama tv series and not only that it has our beautiful canadian friend Erica Durance is why I’m Watching #SavingHope I love the show and I myself and fans thinks that you should keep the show!! as for NBC You need to start promoting the show more often since I’am from and live in the US, my mom and I both love #SavingHope.
They should defently keep it !
This is a beautifully produced, acted, scripted show. It is much more than most medical dramas because its values lie with the emotional/human aspects of medical day to day life, not the super slick, over produced super clever but cold med shows we have grown to expect from mainly US makers. When NBC finally decide to give it the chance it deserves and PROMOTE IT FULLY, like they are doing to their own shows, maybe more people will see that great TV shows are made elsewere, other than the US.
Keep it! The episodes get better, as we get to know Saving Hope characters
I don’t understand why it’s always compared to AGM when the only similarity is that both male characters are doctors; while A Gifted Man can see and talk with his dead wife, Dr. Charlie Harris in Saving Hope is in a coma and his spirit sees and talks with patients either like him or about to cross over (dead).
I love your positive responds….Saving Hope is an amazing show full of heart and soul…It makes me fall more in love with show as they show different episodes…
Michael Shanks is really underused. This show has nowhere to go. I watched two episodes and cannot subject myself to a third.
I hate you ******* ass critics out there that’s all you do is talk **** about this show, but praise others, I say leave saving hope alone and let NBC make up it’s own mind up what it wants to do this this amazing ,gifted, one of a kind show. To all the other haters you just wish that you where fine enough to be on TV so **** off .NBC did not promote saving hope at all, because this network is weak,i prefferd that saving hope should have been on CBS,because they have a much better marketing vaule.
This is sooo true! NBC did not promote it!!! Some SH fans who watch other NBC shows says Saving Hope is hardly advertised!!! What the heck is the matter with NBC??? Just coz they merely imported the show and did not actually produce it??? Gah!!! It’s SV at the CW all over again!!!!
The part about NBC not promoting the show is SO true. It’s #1 in Canada because CTV promoted the hell out of the show, so people are aware of it. The dismal US ratings are in NO way a reflection of the quality of the show – it’s because unless you’re on twitter and following the cast and such, you hardly would have even heard about the show! If the show fails, it is 100% the network’s fault. Not the actors, not the writers, not the producers or anyone else affiliated with the show. I so wish that CBS, ABC,… Read more »
This could.be a great show give it time a let it build.more.of a story
Saving Hope is the best medicial drama around….I think that should keep it….This show is beyond great ,just give it a chance…
i liked the second episode ,i just wonder how long they would keep the main character in a coma.
Saving Hope is a Hopeless show. Didn’t they get it when a Gifted Man was cancelled. People don’t want spirits (of dead or alive people) wandering around their hospital.
I watched “A Gifted Man” and its spiritual side was not what doomed it, in my opinion. The ghost was barely featured in episodes and she didn’t interact with anyone other than her ex-husband. “A Gifted Man” was just a boring show.
It shouldn’t be ‘Saving Hope: cancel or keep it?’, it should be ‘Saving Hope: How long til it’s gone?’.
I like Saving Hope, I think you should keep it.
