The McKenzie brothers are back together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas will reprise their SCTV characters for a benefit concert next month.
Thomas and Moranis originated the characters—beer-loving brothers—on the Canadian sketch series, which ran 1976 to 1984. The cast also included John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Martin Short, and Harold Ramis.
In addition to Moranis and Thomas, fellow SCTV alums Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Martin Short, and Joe Flaherty will be present at the benefit concert alongside Dan Aykroyd and members of the Kids in the Hall cast.
The proceeds from the event, which takes place July 18th in Toronto, “will go toward caring for Jake Thomas, Dave Thomas’ nephew, who suffered a spinal cord injury while snowmobiling in Jan. 2017 that has left him paralyzed from the waist down.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of SCTV? Do you think the show should be rebooted?
My favorite show, it was brilliantly done. The entire nation of Canada was repeating the theme tone, (videos on You Tube show crowns playing it).
Their movie Strange Brew, (I own it, you can find it on VuDu) is a cult classic, and should be viewed with a case beer and your hockey stick, Eh!
Definitely going to try to make in July!
I love them both. ‘The Great White Way’ was comic genius years ahead of its time and their characters’ movie ‘Strange Brew’ is a classic fantasy/spoof recently shown on TMC. My favorite line: “I’d kiss you if I didn’t have puke breath”. I wish I could afford to go to Toronto for the show.
