Last night marked the end of the first season of Secrets and Lies (it may be the end of the series as well) and many viewers were less than pleased about how it ended.
On Secrets and Lies, a house painter and family man discovers a neighbor boy’s dead body in the woods and he quickly goes from being a Good Samaritan to a murder suspect. The lives of everyone around him are turned upside down by the ensuing police investigation and media attention. Did he really do it? The series stars Ryan Phillippe, Juliette Lewis, KaDee Strickland, Natalie Martinez, Dan Fogler, Indiana Evans, and Belle Shouse.
In the finale, we learn that Abby killed Tom and says that the two kids had planned to run away together to be rid of their turmultuous households. She says that he wanted to go back, she panicked and accidently killed him wiith a flashlight. Ben decides to protect his family and take the rap for the murder. Cornell knows the truth but can’t talk him out of it. Abby goes free and Ben goes to jail for a crime he didn’t commit. The twist is that Abby killing Tom wasn’t accidental. Her murder of Tom was brutal and premeditated. End of season… or is it?
In an extra scene released by ABC, the story picks up 14 months later. It’s Natalie’s 18th birthday and she and Dave are quietly celebrating at a coffee shop. Cornell walks in and tries to convinces Natalie that she finally needs to clear her father’s name. It seems like Natalie will testify. Unfortunately, it sounds like Ben has died but Cornell doesn’t explicitly say that. In the final moments, we see Cornell approaching Abby and her mother as they’re on a shopping trip. Here’s the video:
What do you think? Do you like the extra scene? Would you like to see more of these characters or has this story been wrapped up enough for you?
Would like to see it continue with the same Actors and also that Cornell somehow had them fake Ben’s death just to get to Abby so she can get help.
I like your thinking, Marcia.
I hope Ben is alive. I cant see where he would have died in the series.
Loved the series, predicted that Abbey killed Tom two weeks ago. The series was genius and the fact that I knew going in it was only 13 weeks made it fun to watch knowing there was a conclusion. If people wanted it to go on they should try one of the boring night time soaps ie revenge, grays the ones that go on and on and on. Congratulations to the writers it was an amazing 13 weeks.
This show is great very suspenseful and I hope to see a second season. It has enough juice to keep going.
I would like to see Abby off the street.
I didnt like the ending. When and how did Ben die? I do not want Ben to die.. He is the whole show. I want to see more. But without him, there is no show.
Our family love this series and was hooked immediately. We would love to see a season 2. Detective Cornell and friend Dave are great to the story. Please keep them in the cast.
I love this show … don’t want Ben to be dead … and wish the series would continue. Would want the original cast to come back … if he’s dead, how did he die?? Was he killed in prison? So many questions left unanswered if this series does not continue …
This show was captivating. It definitely deserves a second season
Yes…I would like to see the same characters continue. Cornell just won’t quit ( a female Columbo) and Abby’s dark side has a lot of story-line left.
i would like to see more of these characters — think the acting is very good. last year I remember that Mentalist show was canceled. But then it was revived for a limited number of episodes for this season. I still have some hope for this one.
Would like to see it continue. Great actors.
I loved the show and I dont want it canceled. I watched the last episode and want more.
I really love this series because the cast is great. If it does come back i guess it would have to have a new cast and a new story. I wish they could continue it with the cast it has now.
I would like to know what happens to the family and what happens to Abby. It is an interesting searies. Better than a lot.
I’m not going to spoil it for anyone, but I HATE the Cornell Confidential ending. I would much rather have gone back to a second season with this set of characters and actors. Now we can’t. The genius whose idea this was should be drummed out of the storytelling business at every level.
Agreed, not happy with it at all!
