FOX drama Shots Fired won’t have a second season. The series creators have said they weren’t ruling out the possibility of a second season but it seems like there won’t be one.
The 10-part drama explores the tense aftermath of two racially charged shootings in a small North Carolina town. The cast includes Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Will Patton, Aisha Hinds, Conor Leslie, and Stephen Moyer.
Not only was Shots Fired planned as a limited series, but the show’s ratings have been pretty poor. Season one, which wraps next Wednesday night, is averaging a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demo and 3.56 million viewers. Still, the viewership numbers make the drama FOX‘s seventh most-watched scripted series for the 2016-2017 season.
Earlier, creators Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Rock Bythewood said there’s always a chance for a second season down the line.
Word has been that the series wasn’t going to be coming back. Both a network spokesperson and Prince-Bythewood have confirmed that May 24th’s season finale will also be the show’s series finale.

I loved the show. My husband and I watched it every week. I don’t think they advertised it enough. I found many people not even knowing about the show until I mentioned it to them. Would love to see a 2nd season

Please bring this show back. I found it so compelling & interesting. I love the dynamic between the lead characters and the storyline is so real. Please reconsider renewing this show. There is so much garbage on tv, then a real show comes along dealing with real issues and it gets cancelled. C’mon FOX be different, why not lead-don’t follow.
This is a great show, that is so realistic to the time we now live in. But because the way the show was written, I didn’t know there would be a second season but would definitely watch if there was. Some people would rather watch reality shows, than watch a show based on reality.
I enjoy this show it was never a dull moment I will miss shots fired you need to have a second season I haven’t missed not one episode when I work evenings I make sure I record it
I don’t believe it’s about the ratings at all!! SHOTS FIRED brings to light an all to true to life subject matter and FOX shouldn’t be bullied into cancelling it!! We anticipate watching SHOTS FIRED every Wednesday night because of what it portrays. Please reconsider your decision on cancelling the only show that has the guts to portray what’s really going on in so many towns, cities, etc..across the nation.
