After more than a year of “will he/won’t he” speculation and reports, TVLine has confirmed that Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor will be returning for the Smallville series finale.
Of his return to the CW series, Rosenbaum said, “I’m delighted to return for the series finale… I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats. Ha ha.”
He continued, “I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again. Oh, and for Lex to become the bad-ass he’s destined to be.”
Smallville executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson noted, “It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn’t be more excited. And as far as the way he returns… there’ll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent’s life. He is the villain of the story.”

Reportedly, the cast and crew have three episodes left to shoot and will be done in the next six to seven weeks. The special two-hour finale of Smallville will air on Friday, May 13th.
What do you think? Was Rosenbaum’s return planned all along or was all of the “will he/won’t he” drama for real?
One of the sticking points, at least for awhile, was that Rosenbaum didn’t want to shave his head again. Do you think part of the deal was that he wouldn’t have to?
Yes, Lex was bald. It defined who he is. He was ment to be a villian. There are numous factors that created the villian he becomes. Smallville did an excellect job in presenting them. Being bald is part of it.
Depending how long he has grown his hair out, a bald cap may not work. The length from Sorority Boys would not be that noticeable. Then again he has been off the show for 3 seasons so maybe people will not make the direct comparison with his actual bald head.
Hopefully the bald cap won’t look thy weird
However it happens, Lex Luthor will be bald. It has always been such an important part of the character and his psychology. It would be like the Joker having a regular face. You would lose an important physical characteristic that contributes to making the villian so bad that you need a superhero to battle him.
Two words from the world of the stage: bald. cap.
He doesn’t have to shave his head with CG Technology .
