Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
Agree with the other comments, hate to see good shows dropped like this one. What a waste.
Cannot believe this show is axed! Such an intelligent, thought provoking genre! I was so excited for it’s return. So many shows of far less caliber are continuing that it is so sad to loose quality!
Please bring this show back. It was such a well written show and the acting was phenomenal – great actors. I’m tired of all of the reality BS shows . I watch tv to get away from reality (legally)! This was such an interesting show! Please, please, the powers that be, don’t cancel it!!!!!!
My wife and I loved this show.
Please bring it back
NBC I am so sick of you canceling decent television! There’s so much crap on TV and this show actually had good characters, good writing and a good time slot. WTF ??? Are you trying to alienate yourselves from your viewers? Bad move when online programming is about to put you guys to rest. Bean counters don’t always make the best decisions when you have loyal followers who have other choices!!!
Really frustrated that it seems the only shows that stay on TV are mindless reality shows or shows that have to have a sex scene every ten minutes. State of Affairs was the one show that kept me hooked from the very beginning. It was exciting, intellectually stimulating and the actors were completely believable. What a bummer that I won’t get a season two. This is the only show I would watch on NBC. Hopefully another network will pick the show up for season two. Nbc you suck for this call.
Ticked off watched whole season and just leaving us hanging! Hate it when this is done!!!!!
I’m with the “Love it” group. Hard to believe that a show that requires intelligence to watch and is as current on topics, can’t find a way to pull an audience.
I think you made a mistake in cancelling the show, it was a great show and we watched it every time it was on. very very dissapointed.
I don’t believe you gave them enough time. It is a very interesting plot. Please bring it back.
Agree, try a different time slot.
I also loved this show and am highly disappointed that you have cancelled it yet continue to broadcast other shows that are not fit to view. I really think you should consider bringing it back because I think your ratings are wrong for this show as most people I know watch it.
I loved that show! Please bring it back
Give it a chance! Great show, try a diff time
Loved it, Please bring it back.
I loved this show enough to write a comment-please bring it back. It was one of the best new, fresh and entertaining shows on TV. Bring it back!!!! It’s right up there with The Blacklist my other favorite show. Bring it back for the summer line up ( which is really weak) it will be the best thing on TV.
