Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
I didn’t find State of Affairs until one night while I was packing for a trip. I had the tv on to keep me awake and moving. When the show came on (maybe the 3rd episode) I stopped in my tracks, holding clothes in my hands, and stood in front of the TV, riveted by the dialogue, content, and intrigue. I must have stood there for 15 minutes before I decided to give up packing for the moment and sit down. As soon as the show was over, I looked for the beginning episodes On Demand and watched them all!… Read more »
Please consider bringing this show back. It became a ritual while it was gone for my husband and I to watch together.
This was definitely a good show that I didn’t find til it was about half way thru the season. As usual the network is not giving a show a chance. They need to try advertising the show more and maybe trying a different time slot or day.
I just realized this show was cancelled. The story line was amazing and I looked forward to watching the show each week. Why would you cancel this show and leave all the other junk like the Kardashians and other trash shows on. Did the story line to close to home perhaps?
I loved the show please it back
I cannot believe this show is cancelled when such things as American Ninja Warrior, The Island, Celebrity Apprentice just to name a few of your other shows are somehow still on! Lets not talk about some of the upcoming season shows that look so promising, Hot and Bothered, You, Me and the End of the World, Superstore??? Come on NBC, no wonder your ratings continue to go down and down. Take away our good ones! I TRULY hope someone picks this show up!!
This show became one of my favorite shows. I watched it every week.
Bull **** that would even consider canceling much less cancel the show. The show had an amazing story and a can’t turn away approach. My wife and I watched every episode every week live. We made sure that we were home when the show aired every week. But NBC continues to run many cap shows. For Instance the show Grimm, pointless show if u ask me. Although o have no say in the matter this is my opinion. All I say is bring State of Affairs back to tv.
Just Bring it back and cancel all real life junk shows…
I loved this show. I hope the network considers renewing it. Give the show another chance.
Another good show down the drain. Yet we still have two broke girls and such idiot not funny shows that are all about putting people down and what passes for funny which really isn’t.
This show was great and it puzzles me that it was cancelled. Excellent character development and plot twists. We never missed it.a lot worse shows didn’t get cancelled. It was a bright spot innetwok TV.
I loved State of Affairs!! What a cliffhanger of an ending & now there’s no second season?!?
I watched the show on the web (NBC app) & couldn’t turn it off!!
Please come back!!
This was a great show. It should have been renewed. I wonder if the polling states include all the ways the people watch online these days? I mean I for one never watched it live as I watched on Hulu+ and there are many other options for watching online, do those views get counted in the stats? If not, the stats may be very skewed.
Bring it back.
This is one of the best shows on TV. The acting is wonderful, and I enjoyed watching it as much as, or more, than Homeland. You have to bring it back. Watch it yourself and you will see what I mean.
Agreed
