Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
Thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and couldn’t wait to see what happened after the season ending cliffhanger. Watch most of my shows via Amazon Prime and wonder how networks today calculate viewership with the many new ways to watch television. Before cable and the computer, you only had the three major networks. It was easy to determine what and when people watched t.v. With today’s technology, we’ve become a fragmented, convoluted audience. T.V. Executives need to give shows a couple of seasons before “pulling the plug”. Oh, and ditch the reality t.v. Trend. Not everyone cares about what they’re neighbor is… Read more »
UNBELIEVABLE!! Why would you cancel this show after only one season. I watched it every week……give it a chance and bring it back. This was a great show that kept you wanting to tune in the next week to see what happened. Great show with great actors/actresses. Please bring it back!!
I really am not an avid tv watcher, but this show had me hooked. So disappointed it’s been canceled after one season.
I thought it was one of the best show it is a shame if you don’t run season 2 or even 3 . Love to see the show season 2 much better than any other questions show out there
I thought it was one of the best show it is a shame if you don’t run season 2 or even 3 . Love to see the show season 2
I thought this was a fabulous show. I looked forward to it every Monday night. Maybe if the network would be consistent with their programing, a show would get a chance to catch on. the network never gave it the time and chance to catch on. With all the interruptions and then rerun in the middle of the season, how can any one follow the story. I thought this was a well written story and I am sorry to see this go,.!!! There are people in the audience that have minds, and would like t think when they follow a… Read more »
I really liked this show. It had a lot of tension which was great. Sorry to see it go….
So upset this series is cancelled….one of the best cancelled.
Loved the show. Have to admit the last episode was disappointing but that’s the writers. Keep the show change the writers.
This was a show that you had to have some intelligence to watch. Many of the shows that continue to be renewed are geared to just mindless entertainment. When we finally get a series that might have you thinking, they cancel, because they don’t want us to do to much thinking. Shows like, Boston Legal, you had to keep your mind sharp and stay with the dialogue. But we will have mindless shows forever, and they will serve their purpose for some.
So disappointed State of Affairs has been cancelled after one season. It takes time for people to adapt to new shows, build relationships with the characters. One season isn’t nearly enough time. Please, please bring it back. One more season. This show is full of great actors, they deserve another season for those who have not found there way to this terrific show!!
This is a great show!!!! Why are the networks not giving the shows a chance. This year they have cancelled at least seven great shows. They only want stupid so called reality shows which aren’t really reality shows as some of them are actors. It’s all about money and not about the consumer. We need to start boycotting the networks!!!!! If no one watches, then they will lose their sponsors (commercials).
What a shame!! Was a better show than many of the others that continue year after year. Difficult to understand these so-call ratings are accurate.
I loved this show!!! And so did many of my friends and including my grandmother- I told her about it and she was hooked! They need to bring it back!
AND I want to know what happened to Nick Vera! I know he was the one driving the jeep in the last episode/scene!
Can’t believe it’s been cancelled loved it
