Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
I really enjoyed this season and the characters, especially Heigl. Another network should pick up this great show!
love this show ! can’t believe it is cancelled !!!!!!! argh//// can’t leave the show ending like it did!
It was an intelligent show with great writing and acting. I think they should have renewed it.
seems like a lot of people liked this show,i was so pissed when i don’t know what happened to charlie and now i never will this sucks somebody {a network} intelligent please pick up this show
I am disappointed. It took a little to get into the show, but I ended up being very engrossed by it. I was disappointed when the season ended and sad to hear it has been cancelled.
I was always a big fan of ABC but then NBC put all these great shows on black list. The voice state of affairs now you canceled state of affairs so disappointed I loved it don’t let this be the start of more mistakes here I thought you became so smart some good shows not a bunch of reality & news like all the rest of the stations have my family had more family nights with nbc then we’ve had in a long time hope your not taking it away
“Only the good die young”…seems like that applies to television viewing, too. SOF was one of the best shows ever, and it was canceled? Longmire shared a similar fate. Perhaps the demographic of viewers of these shows (mature, intelligent, politically aware) is not what the advertisers want to market to?
State of affairs was a great series I loved it! Can’t believe it was cancelled!!
Cleaver writing, action packed and a fantastic group of actors….NBC made a big mistake. Should have cancelled the real losers on your network and kept SOF.
Obviously it was a prophetic series, since most of what was coming down at the end of season 1 is happening now in America. Maybe it was “too real” for the TV police to allow. By far, State of Affairs was the best socio/political drama since 24.
I would have renewed state of affairs, I love that show!
“State of Affairs” was one of the most exciting fast paced shows based on reality US Govt. procedures and world issues. BBC was CRAZY to cancel this show so soon. They didn’t give it a chance to take hold with TV audiences.
It was a great series! Every episode left me wanting to watch it more and more. I’m shocked that it got cancelled!
It was a good show. Sometimes you have to give things a chance. Not everyone is in to reality or idols. What happen to a good movie? Oh you just cancelled it
I can’t believe it was canceled. I LOVED the series and have been waiting for the second season.
Its been a while since I’ve been on the edge of chair watching a series.
i agree lets make another network pick it up ive been waiting patiently only to see this today im pissed
