Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
Why cancel such a nice show. Compared to Homeland SoA is 9 out of 10
I thought it was a pretty good show. The end of the series was nicely done, in my opinion. If critics complain about the writing, then, that’s something on which your writers can improve.
However, I would not be so quick to quash the series. Twice a year even, the series, with it’s name intact, should present new situations with a new storyline and different actors. Each season would have 10 to 13 eposodes.
It’s also one way to put more people to work.
Why in the world would you cancel state of affairs? Huge mistake!
Can’t believe it got cancelled – this was way better than Homeland!!! Tucker & Nick??? They got to finish this story!!!
I loved this series. I think that it is cruel and unusual punishment to leave the few fans hating like that waiting for what is next. I like Katherine Heigl. I think this was one of her best roles.
I was so looking forward to this show’s return. It had it all danger, mystery, puzzle, love. I can’t believe it was cancelled.
I really loved this show. They should have kept it and put it in a better time slot. I think it was short sighted of the network decision makers to cancel this edgy and well written show.
I am extremely disappointed that State of Affairs has been canceled! 3 shows I liked canceled 🙁
Great ideas posted. Netflix or Amazon Prime-please pick this show up.
My husband & I loved Statw of Affairs. . We r very disappointed that it was canceled. Heigl, the president & support actors were awesome. Hope tons of folks feel the same & that the show is restored. It was confusing sometimes; maybe that hurt ratings.
I am so disappointed there wont be a second season, and frankly shocked. I LOVED it and can’t believe it wasn’t a success. It had a great story line with great actors. I was really looking forward to 2nd season. SUPER bummed!!
That’s really a shame. We enjoyed watching that show and waited all this time to find out what happened from the season final.
Please bring it back.
I miss this show already. It had some amazing characters and a great storyline. I don’t think it was ever given a chance.
Agree!
I believe that this show had a chance. However, I would have moved it to a different date or time so as to not compete with a more established show. I enjoyed it.
Could Netflix please take over the cancelled shows!?! Someone please make this happen I know it would make a HUGE impact on TV ratings and then MAYBE networks will reconsider what they cancel. I’m so disappointed to never know what happens to Charlie and who was actually attempting to save her!!!?? Omg I can’t believe it. Please someone speak on the series going to Netflix or another network
I agree.Even Hulu can take I tip.The show is fantastic.Probably not well advertised.
I agree Christine. What happens to Nick? I am very unhappy they were so quick to cancel.
