Katherine Heigl spent several years on the ABC hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Unfortunately, her own series State of Affairs on NBC didn’t last nearly as long. It’s been cancelled after one season.
State of Affairs follows a top CIA analyst (Heigl) who assembles the President of the United States’ Daily Briefing (PDB), weighing the vital security issues that face the nation. She has a close personal relationship with the commander-in-chief (Alfre Woodard) as she was once engaged to the president’s now-deceased son. The rest of the cast of this dramatic thriller includes Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour.
The show debuted on November 17th with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 with 8.69 million viewers. It was a decent start but the numbers took a big fall in week two, dropping more than 36%. The numbers kept falling and first season ended up averaging just a 1.25 rating in the demo and 5.26 million.
The last episode, which aired on February 16th, hit a new series low in the demo with a 0.97 rating and 4.47 million viewers.
It was clear from the ratings that there wouldn’t be a second season and NBC has now officially cancelled it.
What do you think? Did you like the State of Affairs TV show? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled or renewed this show for a second season?
So disappointed to hear the show cancelled. I couldn’t wait to see what happens in season 2.
Cannot believe NBC cancelled this brilliant show. It was such a great relief from the same script different actors type of series that are on TV now. All the great elements of suspense, drama, thrilling nature and many more were so perfectly crafted it is so sad to see it go just after 1 season. All the great shows are always always underrated leaving us with unworthy clichés that they expect us to watch and enjoy, so so saddened with this..!!
Very disappointed that NBC cancelled the show. I thought it was a brilliant first season! They MUST reconsider!
Very disappointed it was cancelled. Great acting, suspenseful, and unpredictable with a great cast of actors. Can’t say that about most of the other stuff out there for us to watch. The viewing numbers are surprising; everybody I talked with really liked it.
The show was great don’t cancel
I am extremely disappointed this show has been cancelled. i felt this was a great way for America to see what type of things go on behind the senses. Great loss NBC. I am saddened!!
I really enjoyed this show. Sorry it had to go. It seemed real life
So disappointed that they have cancelled State of Affairs! Such a great show !
i don’t know why i bother watching nbc. EVERY TIME i find a GREAT!!!!! show you call it a bust and go and cancel it. I am so sick and tired of wasting my time getting hooked on your shows just for you to turn around and and say no one liked it. maybe if there was more shows like this and less CRAP like the voice more people actually might watch tv! so angry and disappointed at myself i should have known better than to what a show from your network! stop wasting our time!!!!!!!!!
I love this show, there are so few show’s on tv worth watching and you are taking off the good one’s. I am so sick of reality show’s, cop show’s. Why do we get stuck with all the stupid one’s? There is nothing to watch on tv anymore. Give us the show’s we enjoy watching.
Very disappointed State of Affairs was cancelled. We found it to be suspenseful, intriguing and enjoyable. Unlike many of the other programs carried by the major networks.
with the numbers, I would have probably cancelled it too, but I so dearly loved that show. Great acting and great writing
What a shock!!
I found it very good and couldn’t believe there will be no season2 i am so disappointed, it has all the elements to work, drama and suspens, may be the aired it on a bad time slot. Really wish they would recondite and have a go for season 2
I loved the show! It was a thriller, you never know what’s going to happen next! I can’t believe it’s cancelled! Very upset about that!!
Totally believe this show was a hit and the take down was politically motivated because it modeled actual events recently unfolded. This show had meat and complexity to it. PLEASE — dump some of these reality shows. Totally bored with most!!!!
I agree with you, it didn’t have all that cheesy senarios like “Madame secretary”. It was very thrilling like scandal, hope they will reconsider
