For the most part, ABC’s summer programming focuses on reality TV series, like The Bachelorette and game shows like Celebrity Family Feud. Still, the Alphabet Network always makes a little room for summertime scripted series. Although Mistresses was cancelled after four seasons, last fall, the Downward Dog sitcom premiered in May, and the Somewhere Between drama series kicks off in July. Joining them is the Still Star-Crossed TV show. Will this Romeo and Juliet sequel be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
A Shondaland TV series adaptation of Melinda Taub’s novel, Still Star-Crossed stars Grant Bowler, Wade Briggs, Torrance Coombs, Dan Hildebrand, Lashana Lynch, Ebonee Noel, Medalion Rahimi, Zuleikha Robinson, Sterling Sulieman, Susan Wooldridge, and Anthony Head. The ABC drama features the bloodshed and palace intrigue overwhelming fair Verona in the aftermath of the tragic deaths of Romeo (Laviscount) and Juliet (Rugaard). To force a truce, Prince Escalus (Sulieman), decrees Benvolio Montague (Briggs) and Rosaline Capulet (Lynch) must wed.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

6/22 update: ABC sent Still Star-Crossed to Saturday nights and a cast member confirmed there won’t be a second season.
“Still Star-Crossed” was an amazing show. I am a junior in high school at the moment and I feel like this show gives an undeniable brilliant extension to the whole Romeo and Juliet story. There are shows today that are good and some that are bad. They are just based on everyone’s personal preferences. There is only a small population of people who are literature lovers and book lovers and this show is well suited for that small population, with me included. There should most definitely be a Season 2. I rate this show ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!! Whoever thought of this show,… Read more »
I loved this show too!!! I would really REALLY love a season 2 to finish off the cliff hanger…… I give it very high ratings as well 🙂 This is amazing.
I loved the series. Please don’t cancel!
This show could be another Shondaland hit. I hope they bring it back for a 2nd season.
I think this show ended too soon. There is still more story to tell. I am getting tired of watching new shows and getting hooked only to find it getting canceled too soon. I hope another network picks this show up for another season and lets the story continue. Please don’t leave the fans hanging with a love triangle involved.
