There have been many music-related TV drama series throughout the years. Some have done well but many others have been cancelled. How will CMT’s new Sun Records TV show perform in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be dropped instead? Stay tuned.
Airing on the CMT cable channel, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, Jonah Lees, Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday. In the show, Sam Phillips (Murray) shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). These up-and-coming white musicians combine hillbilly country music, with the ’50s R&B sound of African American artists like Ike Turner (Holliday), B.B. King (Castro Coleman), Muddy Waters, and Fats Domino.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/5 Update: While not cancelled, CMT has confirmed there will be no season two of Sun Records. Details here.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: The premiere was simulcast Nick-at-Nite (0.15 demo and 544,000) and TV Land (0.08 demo with 453,000).
What do you think? Do you like the Sun Records TV show? Do you think CMT should have cancelled or renewed it for a second season?
I think Sun Records is a fab show. I’ve seen Million Dollar Quartet and luved it but this program tells us much more in detail about how these great acts were found and developed their sound. Amazing tunes that move and groove.
As a closet county music fan, I just can’t get enough of Nashville or Still the King! But you must keep Sun Records coming. The artists depicted are part of my history growing up in the 60s. Watching it gives me the inside straight about the artists my family and I enjoyed when we were young. My father believed in exposing us to all kinds of music. It reminds me of the stories he used to tell us about race music, rock and roll, as well as R&B. Please don’t take any of those shows off. Where can I get… Read more »
It’s really a great show. It may have taken a little bit to develop the characters and people seem to think it started slow but I disagree. It just has been awesome. It’s all about the actors and the music! It doesn’t rely on Hollywood smoke and mirrors. It’s driven by the terrific acting, writing, and of course music! Jimmy and Jerry Lee could be a series on their own. So could Elvis. Don’t stop now! Sam Phillips was a visionary. CCM is killing it! I can’t imagine any other actor could match his portrayal. Love Sun Records!
Absolutely LOVE Sun Records!!! Best show on television. Please keep the advertisements for it coming take every effort to expose it to people.
Please don’t cancel sun records I love it!!!
It starts slow sothe viewer gets to know who Sam is & what he is about… each episode will be more& more… The Story Of What Happened In Memphis
Will be hard to sell advertising when less that 500,000 people watch nation wide. Only people watching are people that live in Memphis
Actually Howard, a lot more than 500,000 people watch nationwide. The numbers you see above are overnights – a smaller select sampling of cities and don’t reflect Neilson’s national numbers or DVR showings. And even with 500,000 viewers, I doubt most of them are just in Memphis.
I’m from Canada! Love it!!!
I’m not in Memphis or Tennessee. I know a lot of folks that has been watching.
Love this show! I really hope for a season 2! Nothing like it on television, which is very refreshing!
I am hoping for a season 2, the first 2 episodes were slow but the show is really picking up now and there is so much potential to showcase Sun Records over the years
By the time it’s done, there will be no one watching. Lost almost 1/2 it’s audience. Even for CMT, this is bad. I like it, but I’m only one guy!!
I enjoy those artist and look forward to the show just after watching one episode. I would really hate to see it end before it really gets started. A lot of good shows are cancelled I would really like to see this one keep going please don’t cancel.
I”m about ready to give up watching.Want more Elvis and Cash not Sam!!
Love it! must be renewed from only watching the first epeisode! The cast is amazing, the sets and wardrobe so authentic.. for a cable show i think it is great!
