There have been many music-related TV drama series throughout the years. Some have done well but many others have been cancelled. How will CMT’s new Sun Records TV show perform in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be dropped instead? Stay tuned.
Airing on the CMT cable channel, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, Jonah Lees, Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday. In the show, Sam Phillips (Murray) shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). These up-and-coming white musicians combine hillbilly country music, with the ’50s R&B sound of African American artists like Ike Turner (Holliday), B.B. King (Castro Coleman), Muddy Waters, and Fats Domino.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/5 Update: While not cancelled, CMT has confirmed there will be no season two of Sun Records. Details here.

Note: The premiere was simulcast Nick-at-Nite (0.15 demo and 544,000) and TV Land (0.08 demo with 453,000).

I really like the show and I hope it comes back for a second season.
I definitely need a second season
Please renew Sun Records. Absolutely loved season 1 – the first show in a very long time that my husband and I are excited to watch!
Great show, musical history and great entertainment. CMT owes it to it’s viewers to renew this fantastic program. Please bring on a second season.
Really like Sun Records… Hope their back for more season!
Season two PLEASE. Awesome show. Love it!!!!!!
Comcast sabotoged CMT by moving CMT to a subscription only Sport packagage. If this show were on Netflix it would be a hit. Come on everyone, demand a second season.
Love this show. It’s so great to finally have something wholesome to watch on tv. Right now there’s too much crap on and it’s great to see something that’s not only a true story but incredible actors. Cannot wait for season 2.
I think it is great. Love seeing how all the musicians started put at the same time. Pits a lot of things in perspective. Hard to see some of the racial part, nut it was told like it was during that time. Pretty honest. Hard to see Sam Phillips go through the shock treatment, but so did my mom. That was the choice of experimentation, unfortunately . Really gave me insight into the colonel. Keep it going. More music. Like how it shows Sam Phillips and his legacy. Music united us all during those times.
Awesome awesome awesome!!! They’ve only scratched the surface and seriously hope it gets renewed!!!
1st episode was great. went down hill from there. By the end it only captured half its original audience at vest. It was billed as a mini series so it was very confusing where this story was going. Understand it was based on MDQ but it completely misses the boat in trying to tell a fluid story with a beginning, middle and end of the limited 8 part mini series. And there’s no payoff. Only good part was that Trevor Donovan only had 4 lines in the whole series . This ended like Texas Rising mini series did, done by… Read more »
Like it and hope for a season 2. Great story of the early days of rock and roll in Memphis. Cast is great.
I just discovered this show and am loving watching it with my son!!
Awesome show! I’m a big Elvis fan but also a fan of some of the others. Learned some interesting things I didn’t know about Elvis and some of the others. We need a Season 2!!! Please
