There have been many music-related TV drama series throughout the years. Some have done well but many others have been cancelled. How will CMT’s new Sun Records TV show perform in the ratings? Will it be renewed for a second season or, will it be dropped instead? Stay tuned.
Airing on the CMT cable channel, Sun Records stars Chad Michael Murray, Billy Gardell, Drake Milligan, Kevin Fonteyne, Christian Lees, Jonah Lees, Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday. In the show, Sam Phillips (Murray) shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). These up-and-coming white musicians combine hillbilly country music, with the ’50s R&B sound of African American artists like Ike Turner (Holliday), B.B. King (Castro Coleman), Muddy Waters, and Fats Domino.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/5 Update: While not cancelled, CMT has confirmed there will be no season two of Sun Records. Details here.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: The premiere was simulcast Nick-at-Nite (0.15 demo and 544,000) and TV Land (0.08 demo with 453,000).
What do you think? Do you like the Sun Records TV show? Do you think CMT should have cancelled or renewed it for a second season?
I had high hopes for this series but have been very disappointed. There are so many inaccuracies that it makes my head spin. Supposedly based on the Broadway show “Million Dollar Quartet” it is nowhere near that event. I don’t care if it is canceled or renewed. It should be labeled fiction with other character names the way Dreamgirls got away with spoofing the Supremes.
I love it and please renew it. Can’t wait for season 2!!!!
Loved it and renew it but with less commercials.
I love this show. I was just ready to set the DVR for tonight’s episode (4/20) and it wasn’t listed. Does this mean the season ended? If so, I really hope there will be a season 2. I have been telling everyone about it. Love everything about it – the acting, nostalgia. Let’s the younger generation in on this significant musical history. I will truly be a shame if it is not renewed. So many other shows out there that can’t hold a candle to this.
I love watching Sun Records. I definitely hope it is renewed. There is so much more story to tell of all the characters. I love the casting and the writing. Its a very fun show to watch. So well written and well acted. PLEASE RENEW!!!
I have really enjoyed every episode. I hope the series will continue until the whole story has been told.
Sun Records, loved it. Didn’t know it was on until Episode 8 so I binge watched it. Please have at least a second season.
Sun Records should definitely be renewed!
Need a season 2 best show ever!!!
Sun Records is awesome I hope they do a second season
Binged the show in 2 days, I would think any Rock N Roll person would love it. Bring it again!
Renew the show, good acting and content. Finally a series that tells the story of the beginning of rock and roll with good young actors. It’s refreshing to see as opposed to all the crazy meaningless action film/series of today with no real plots/substance. Renew this and keep quality on your network.
Show is great bring back season 2
The Show is very well done, the cast works well together. The music is a plus. Keep the show for next season – Lou A. Safonte
Great Show. Only hope it comes back for a second season.
