It turns out that there won’t be a sixth season of the Switched at Birth TV show on Freeform. Series creator and executive producer Lizzy Weiss has confirmed that season five will be the end. She wrote, “This season of #SwitchedatBirth will be our final one. We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude.”
Switched at Birth follows the lives of two teenage girls after it’s discovered that they ended up with the others’ families as babies at the hospital. The cast includes Vanessa Marano, Katie Leclerc, Lea Thompson, Constance Marie, Sean Berdy, D.W. Moffett, Lucas Grabeel, and Giles Marini.
The series debuted in June 2011, won a Peabody Award in 2013, and features several deaf and hard-of-hearing series regulars. The fourth season finished airing in October 2015 was down by 28% in both the 18-49 demographic and total viewership. The fifth and final season has yet to be scheduled and will apparently have just 10 episodes (93 installments have aired over the previous four seasons).
What do you think? Are you a fan of this series? Do you think the final season of Switched at Birth should have been longer? Would you have watched a sixth season?

If you want more seasons of Switched at Birth (even though it’s been cancelled) you should let Freeform know. If enough people Tweet to @freeform perhaps they’ll change their minds!
This is terrible. Please tell me how to save this show. We can’t live without SWAB!
So disappointed. Switched at birth is my favorite
Super sad to see this series go. It’s one of the few shows worth watching these days. I’m a die hard fan and am anxiously awaiting season 5
To be honest, i think that swiched at birth has to be one of my favorite series to watch, i that it’s being cancelled…..this is BS
I have been watching this program since it first began. One reason is that I wanted to learn more about how deaf people succeed in life. I have a deaf sister and am very interested in learning ASL. It is an amazing show, love the characters, and how they are portrayed. I also love the fact that they don’t treat deaf people like victims!!! Will be watching for the return. Only 10 episodes for season 5? That’s shocking. Even my deaf sister enjoys watching it. Many thanks to the writers, producers, and the fabulous cast. You have opened many peoples’… Read more »
I would definitely watch a 6th season and am very sad to hear there will be only 10 episodes for the 5th season – it’s a great show!
Does anyone know why only the first 10 episodes are available on DVDs?
Can’t believe they would cancel “Switched at Birth”. Freeform has no other shows that I watch. This show was good for young people to see another side of people with hearing loss. It was educational with great story lines. Well no more ABC/Freeform for me, not that they care……
Love, Love, Love this show! From another comment: First the 9 Lives of Chile King, The Lying Game, then Twisted, Chasing Life, now Switched at Birth.
I think ABC/Freeform is the worst network for cancelling good shows.
I wish there was a site that people could vote & it actually mattered!
Sadly I think ABC is the network of DOOM for so many good, new shows 🙁
I LOVED LOVED LOVE THE SHOW AND I ABSOLUTELY WOULD HAVE WATCHED IT I DONT KNOW WHY THEY TAKE OFF ALL THE GOOD SHOWS AND PUT ON GARBAGE IM TIRED OFF NETWORKS DONT GIVE GOOD SHOWS A CHANCE AND THINKS THAT EVERY ONE LIKES ALL THE TRASHY STUFF I LIKE CLEAN AND HOLESOM SHOWS PLEASE BRING BACK DECENT SHOWS
Well this is the last of the shows I watch on this station to go. First Jane by Design which was a great show, Chasing Life, now Switched at Birth. I’m done with this station. No need to tune into it anymore. I would like to say thank you to all the actors and directors and screen writers that did those shows too bad ABC Family didn’t know what the fans were actually enjoying.
We as a family love too watch Switched at Birth! I hate to see it end! We were looking forward to watching it but now will be sad that it is the last season. My daughter is Deaf and my son is Hard of Hearing, I believe this is why we enjoyed it so very much. It created a great way too talk about certain life topics that they will soon face! I wish Switched at Birth would continue on!
How dare you take our show off it should have been longer your making me cry I’ve been waiting for it to come back on and out of the blue you cancel it
Plzzz put this show back on why are you canceling it?
