It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
Very disappointed that it will not be returning . Really enjoyed the series and found it well worth watching.
Awesome show they need to bring it back ASAP
I watched all twelve episodes on Netflix and was intrigued with show. It had ingredients of comedy, mystery and action. I would like to know if there is a second season, Please.
So disappointed that this show was cancelled. NBC please reconsider – the show is amazing
A moronic decision to cancel. This is a great example of why TV networks are so terrible. I just watched all of Taxi Brooklyn on Netflix and although I dislike “cop shows” this one is awesome. Why? Likely due to some great acting from Jay Ido and Chyler Leigh coupled with good writing, a great supporting cast and the hottest taxi cab I’ve ever seen. The season finale was crazy good, with twists and turns in the plot, multiple deaths of important characters and several ‘Oh my God, what’s going to happen!’ type cliff hangers that to not have a… Read more »
Binged through the first season on Netflix
Really disgusted to find there is no closure.
Back to BBC series, which tend to last a decade or two longer than American efforts.
dissapointed is an understatement !!!
I too picked it up on Netflix. Loved it! The premise seems baked out of a short story, and even during the 10+ eps… it wears thin. I’m glad they finished the demo season, and I’m sure the actors will all move on–this was a great show. Ending it before it jumped the shark (and the series finale sounds like they were running up the ramp…) is a good ideal. Pulling too many episodes out of the source material cheapens it. The source material just wasn’t setup for a long run. I’d rather enjoy these characters and actors, and then… Read more »
My wife and I just found this series on Netflix. We immediately fell in love with it and watched every episode in under 2 days. If NBC did any advertising about this show they must have done at 2am in the morning. If the network isn’t willing to back their shows, of course they will fail. It’s too bad that one demographic controls what is on television. Every show can’t be an over the top success but there are millions of viewers not in that demographic that by from advertisers. I hope the European company has more smarts than the… Read more »

I just finished this season on Netflix and bummed there isn’t going to be a season 2, ugh I really wanted to know how it was going to play out like did the mom actually die and what about Leo and his family… they really should have done one more episode or season
I very much enjoyed the series, i do not see any reason why the show should not be brought back. You can’t just leave people in limbo wondering what happen!
not good finally found a show that I like watching and they take it away from us .this is bull
