It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
We need to now what happen next
This was a good mid-season show! NBC should just STOP seasonal shows that they are going to cancel. I watch it on Netflix and it was good hopefully Netflix will pick it up. NBC has a bad batch of big wigs that don’t know what shows to keep or cancel those Neilson ratings are not always the best source. Taxi Brooklyn deserved another chance.
PLEASE BRING IT BACK, BEST SHOP EVER
I watched the series on Netflix and really liked it!!! The should definitely make new seasons!! It’s very funny and entertaining, worth every moment of it. And it’s not cool to leave it as it is, letting the audience wonder about the characters’ faith.
Why is it that all the good shows are cancelled and the trash stays on?
Not the first time I find a little gem on Netflix only to be left hanging because the networks had decided to cancel it.
That is why I do not watch regular TV. I am not going to sit through 15 minutes of advertising on a half hour show and make clueless network executives a buck in my time.
So damn right!
you got that straight!
I would like to say that this is a fantastic show. It has a different perspective on day to day life as a detective. If NBC was adamant on canceling the show why end it with such a cliff hanger. The least you could do is have a short 8- 10 final season. Just to clear up loose ends (obviously keep it interesting) but to just finish up all the story lines that had been opened. Why even start any sort of a story within a story if your not going to follow through. Why not just have a show… Read more »
They should make season 2.
Saw it on netflix and cannot believe it was cancelled! Good characters and believable, great chemistry… Many shows don’t do well right off the bat- why not give them mre chances to get an audience? There is so much junk on tv these days.
I really don’t watch much US tv series because they are always pulled off after giving you a taste of one season of good shows and leaving you with cliff hangers that they will never answer. Maybe you put the wrong people in your demographics. Since we’ve gotten Netflix, it’s been European tv series for me. Whether they feel that they are good or bad they let you see the whole series with no cliff hangers, and you get to judge for your self whether you were entertained or not. I really, really did enjoy the show. I am really… Read more »
My husband and I LOVE the show. Hope they get a 2nd season. Characters likable. Must see what happens after the finale when it looks like major characters get a) arrested, b) blown up and c) shot. Please continue. a 2nd season, please, please.
Don’t cancel this. What happened to giving a show time to find its flow.
I just finished watching the series like everyone else. I can’t believe NBC would do this to such a good diverse cast. I’m not disappointed, I’m fricking pissed!!!
Bring it back taxie Brooklyn if ur smart u would dam good endings to season one.. wake up people at nbc!!!
We love the show and hope some other network will pick it up!
Would totally watch another season especially after the finale
The last episode of Taxi Brooklyn, a show I discoverd on Netflix a few weeks ago, was the best episode of the series. Why was it cancelled? Because networks want immediate return kn their investment. Would the humbers have improved? We’ll never know now. NBC, shame in you for dropoing the show on a cliffhanger. What happened to the characters? Ankther great show, Commander in Chief, ended the same way. It’s why I have turned from network TV to innovative online services like Netflix and Amazon. I hope another outlet finds a way to bring back the show-at least give… Read more »
