It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
Very annoyed to notice this building sign just now, among the establishing shots at the beginning of Episode 3: NYPD 125th Precinct
Correct me if I’m wrong, but … doesn’t this show take place in Brooklyn — and isn’t the 125th in Harlem???
Soooo, what the heck happened?? They left the lead characters in dire straits. There were no repetitive lengthy fight scenes for a change, and it had well written character development. Sometimes I think the IQ of network TV shows is going back into a decline. This was a good show in a great venue.
Season 2 please
I loved Taxi brooklyn….I hate getting into series and they cancel they suddenly….
Really enjoyed the show. Crappy you canceled it. I had never even heard of it. Found it on Netflix.
NETFLIX, please pick this show up and continue it! The ending alone has me jonesing for more. Please!
Binge watched the whole season, only to find that it’s been cancelled! Why? The ratings don’t mean anything! With Netflix in our lives, we don’t need to be in America to watch it. Bring it back – minus Rhys, (reminded me of Shortland Street in the early days). I want to know what happens next. I want Frankie to be sick in bed, at home. Finish it!
Hate when they cancel good shows like this! Bring it back!!!!
I think that the series should atleast be brought to Netflix…at first glance the show did not capture my attention…but these characters are really funny and relatable people…I need to know if Leo’s son and ex wife will be ok. My only constructive criticism is just switching up the intro to something that grabs attention right away.
Would love a second season. Left hanging
There should be a season two. Taxi Brooklyn was brilliant and gave me something to look forward to. The the season finale left me wanting to watch more and I was deeply disappointed when I heard there wasn’t going to be a second season.
I just watched season 1 and was so mad when I couldn’t find season 2. I loved the show. We found it on Netflix
Just completed watching the Taxi Brooklyn series season 1 on Netflix. If NBC cancelled the series, do they still have the rights to the project? With Netflix doing their own original programming, wouldn’t it be possible for Netflix to take over the project and produce the second season? NBC’s loss would be Netflix’ gain
Yes I would like to see what happened, did her mom. Make it off the ferry, did Leo’s friend make it, did Leo rescued his wife and son, did grag make to the hospital, did cat get revenge against Anna conpella or did cat kill anna? So yes I would like to have a second season
What a shame! At least you could have done a couple more episode to offer a certain ending! it is unfinished now ! So weird….
I really liked the character! …too bad….
