Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

It is very disappointing that FX is not giving Terriers another chance. It was a well written, quirky show with great characters- I loved it. I even got my college-age nephews and 30-something grownup kids hooked. Terriers was in the “Homicide: Life on the Streets” vein, a show where dialogue and character were as important as the plot. I guess I should be used to the fact that thoughtful, smart tv shows don’t last (like Keen Eddie) and stupid ones continue. Please bring Terriers back to life!
I can’t believe this show is canceled. The last episode made me want so much more. The way it ended left it so wide open for a plethora of ways for the show to go. I am truly saddened because this show was great. I truly loved the characters. This show deserves at least one more season to show the true potential of this show for those people who just couldn’t see it in the first season. I think if Terriers just had one more crack at it, the writers and cast could make season two something magical and prove… Read more »
hey at least give us a 2 hour final episode…to tie things up
Terriers had the sharp wit and snappy dialog that shows such as “Keen Eddie” and “Pushing Daisies” embodied. . . . of course they had to cancel it. This is exactly why we so rarely watch prime-time television. What a waste of some great characters and storylines. Good-bye, Hank, Britt, and Winston — to know you was to love you!
Agree with Marcus and Dru! As in everthing, it all boils down to Location, Location, Location ( and Marketing). If F/X can pay for repeats ( and Boy, do I mean repeats!), of Two and 1/2 Men, The 70’s Show and Spin City , they should be able to try to keep SOME of the quality programming…. Unless their Marketing/Progam Dept. is looking to become the new TVland or Nic@night. Oh well, I off to USA (or TNT) websites, where “characters are welcome”: I am going to suggest a new show called “Terriers”.
This was a fantastic show and I LOVED it! How could they cancel it! Please bring it back!
this show is awesome and its so original everyone that wants to see this back on the air please make a vote
Count me in as a person who thought this was an excellent show, with great characters. It’s all in the marketing, and if a network doesn’t care whether a series survives or not, then the marketing will be poor. I had my DVR set to record every new Terriers, however, every other recording of Terriers was just 9 minutes of the show. Was this some sort of programming error that caused people to be discouraged from following it? I hope one of the major networks pick it up.
What in the world is going on? perhaps Terriers is a very smart show, and some people just can not follow a story line. do we really live in a world that reality shows are good? i am so angry that this show is being pulled, i love this show. everything about this show was on the button, i am really in shock!! BRING IT BACK!
This show was excellent. It was the first show I ever viewed on FX, and since they axed Terriers, it will be the last time I watch FX. Show name may have been misleading to those that didnt catch the ads.
What the hell! I LOVED terriers and watched it every Wednesday night..I’m so upset it’s been cancelled because it seriously was the best tv show that’s been on in quite some time..makes me sick that we can’t keep a fabulous tv show with an on the edge of your seat type story line on the air…is there anyway we can rally to keep it on or bring it back? Remember the fans of jerico did that and it came back on….ahhh terriers and Brit, I’ll miss you!!!
Why would they cancel this great show and keep a show like hawaii five-NO.That show was dumb when it first can out years ago.
Terriers was a diamond in a sea of fake stones this last season. It’s amazing how stupid the american people became (not really we elect Bush twice!!!!!!!). All this stupid, retarded “Reality TV” shows are coming back and a great show for normal brain cell’s people isn’t. I guess that a population that rather whatch “Snucky” than Terriers deserve a Sarah Palin character as President.
FX Terriers is the BEST show on television and you’re cancelling it? Its you’re own fault that it doesn’t have good viewership. You’re ****** marketing is what caused this! And what about the fans? The last episode left so much out how could you cancel the show? This show is one of the only shows I’ve ever cared to watch and hated the wait to watch it next week! Its a great show and I hope another network, which aren’t dumbasses, understands this and picks it up because it is GREAT!
Totally agree with you Marcus!!!!
I hope another network picks it up….I loved that show. They didn’t give it a chance, one season is not enough time. They will probably replace it with a reality show…ugh!
