Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

So angry this show was cancelled but not surprised. Good writing, good acting, why wouldn’t it be killed? No room for quality in our reality show-loving country.
If FX just advertised the damn thing, they wouldn’t have to cancel such a high-quality show. Terriers is as good as Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights. Bad decision to cancel since there are so few well-made shows on TV for intelligent viewers. Shame on FX.
Terriers may have confused today’s atypical viewers upon debut due to the title. When advertised/promoted, the show appeared to be about, well, terriers/dogs. The first episode tied the name of the show and it’s significance into reality when Donal Logue’s cohort in crime busting character Michael Raymond-James delivered the analogy to his girlfriend on the show and then also in a later episode as the two unlicensed private detectives were discussing what they should call their agency. The two of them were relentless in solving cases. Relentless pursuit just like “Terriers” mentalities are in real life. FX and it’s numbers… Read more »
Network bosses are idiots! This was a great show that should have been given more time to blossom. There have been many shows that turned into hits after a lackluster first season. FX didn’t do enough to advertise it and diehard fans needed more time to spread the word about the quality of this fantastic show.
Me and my husband loved this show. I don’t understand why it would be canceled. We looked forward every week for this to come on. Please reconsider canceling this. There is so much crap on TV now, but this show is great. PLEASE BRING IT BACK FOR ANOTHER SEASON. GIVE IT A SECOND CHANCE.
hope they change their minds and put it back. Found it excellent. Hope to find these actors again in another series.
I really enjoyed Terriers. I’m a big fan of a lot of FX shows, and this was one of them. Definitely. Not. Happy.
I only heard about Terrriers through the suggestion of a TV obsessed friend, never saw it advertised. I was hooked after the first episodes; real characters, subtle dialogue, nothing too outrageous. Plus it all goes down in my hometown. I am feeling very bitter about the fact that I got hooked on a show with a grand and final total of 13 episodes.
Bring. It. Back.
This is a super show, like ER and NYPD Blue that just grabs attention from the first viewing. Just happened on it after Sons of Anarchy encore and was hooked! Really too bad FX didn’t advertise it because viewers may have gotten behind it just like Justified and SOA. Just reconsider the cancellation and advertise and the viewers will come!
Great show – getting cancelled is a badge of honor nowadays, as only mediocre shows keep going. This show is as good as other shows that were prematurely cancelled – Life, Keen Eddie, etc. What a shame.
I was so disappointed to hear the show got cancelled. I would pay money to watch it again. Real people acting and talking like real people. And the subtle humor! I love it.
Terriers was a good show, We recorded it weekly! Why, take the good ones?
I have never commented on a television show before. I thought Terriors was an excellent show. The characters were well developed and the story line was quite good. Make it come back.
I had seen previously that Terriers was in jeopardy…and just read in TV Guide that this fantastic show had been “put down”…..Donal and the producer had it right when they said that the show’s title might have had something to do with it (although I understand the rationale behind….they were like terriers with chew bones). Bottom line, I am so disappointed that I won’t get to see further cases they investigate or see how the friendship between Hank and Britt developed (as well as all the other cast members). I am a retired high school English teacher…I have read my… Read more »
This was a fabulous show. Perhaps advertising it would help; I never saw any promotions for it at all. All the characters are all great! How do you go about bringing it back–perhaps another network can pick it up (like has apparently been done with Damages)??? Don’t kill it!
“Terriers” was beautifully written, acted, and directed. With all the crap that is on television these days maybe that was the reason it was cancelled… it was too good. Donal Logue has never gotten credit for his fine acting performances. And now his co-hort, Michael Raymond-James, seems to be having the same problem.
FX should give this show a second chance. It won’t work on another basic cable network because of the language, etc. FX is great about leaving its’ edgy programming alone. So, FX, give this show another shot!
