After more than two years in development, a reboot of The 4400 TV series has been ordered by The CW. The network gave the remake a straight-to-series order, meaning that a pilot has not been produced.
Airing on USA Network from July 2004 until September 2007, The 4400 series stars Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Mahershala Ali, Laura Allen, Patrick Flueger, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Chad Faust, Kaj-Erik Eriksen, Samantha Ferris, Jenni Baird, Brooke Nevin, Conchita Campbell, Karina Lombard, Billy Campbell, and Peter Coyote. The story begins as a mysterious ball of light deposits a group of exactly 4,400 people near Mount Rainer in Washington state. These people had all previously disappeared in a beam of light, starting as far back as 1946. None of them have aged since their disappearances nor do they have any memory of where they’ve been.
The original 4400 series aired for four seasons and 44 episodes. The series was cancelled in December 2007, reportedly due to low ratings, budget costs, and the ongoing Writers Guild strike. As you might expect, the drama series ended with a cliffhanger.
The new version of the series comes from co-executive producer Ariana Jackson, Laura Terry, and Anna Fricke. The latter recently rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger for the CW. Jackson wrote the script for the reboot. Deadline reports:
In The 4400, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.
There’s no word yet as to when the new version of The 4400 will premiere.
What do you think? Did you watch the original version of The 4400 TV series? Do you plan to check out this reboot on The CW?
I was so looking forward to the next season of this series! It was interesting and intriguing! Please bring it back! Top fan
I’ve just started watching 4400 in the uk I’m on the 4th series I hope they make another series
Just binge watch the first four seasons and I’m very upset that it wasn’t ended properly! I loved this show! Own the first four seasons! It needs to come back so it could be ended properly! I think the ratings went down because USA always pre-amps the regular TV programming for “other things.” One of the reasons USA is one of my least favorite networks! I’d love CW to bring it back!
Loved it ; don’t understand why it was canceled
I’ve watched it three times over, I’d love to see a new series of it.
Loved it! Can’t wait for the reboot.
You have other caring fans. How did you not get enough ratings? we are literally making an unformed list on why this show must go on. How has this not been spoken about by any of the theory team and followers? O just wish this smart kept on. Have a good one.
Your show is literally, advertised by Netflix. Why would they advertise your show if there weren’t going to be any more? So unfair.
I wish you would not have ended this series. It picked my mind unlike any other thing or person has ever done. you have peaked my interest, as could be said. I do not believe that this feature was a failure. I am a 30 Year old woman that binged this show. I would at the very least adore and approve of a super reboot with a plus, or a recap series to the amazing show that I just watched, and connected to. This would just be, fantastic. This cliffhanger is just too much…
I binge watched all four seasons on STAN here in Australia and loved it. CW needs to continue this series with as many of the original actors/characters as possible. To end the original series on a cliff hanger the way it did is unacceptable. Everyone I know are also furious with the show being cancelled the way it was and feel it was damn right rude to fans of the show. The cancellation of the series was completely arrogant of CW, how the hell would they know the worldwide number of viewers and fans the series has. If a series… Read more »
I agree 100 percent! I hate the way Hollywood operates now. Only 13 episodes in a season is ridiculous. There used to be 30 or more back in my day with shows like Andy Griffith and I Love Lucy. There was nothing to watch but reruns in the summer and everyone waited until September to watch the next season of their favorite shows. Now you get to watch one episode every two weeks. They should just let us watch one season for 13 weeks and get it over with. Dragging it out just makes me even more angry. Some shows… Read more »
Why is the new 4400 still on? I find it insulting that CW has let this show continue.
Horrible dialog. The original 4400 was smart, slick and organized. There are no questions being answered on this version. Questions such as: 1. Why are the guards acting like Nazi guards 2. Why is a mean, single minded parole officer leading the interrogations? 3. Why are the returnees being treated with such disrespect? 4. Lastly, Why are there no real interrogators or government staff in charge? It makes no sense at all.
