While the press information for last Thursday’s finale of The Astronaut Wives Club promoted it as only the “season finale,” it seemed pretty clear that, once the episode aired, the show had ended for good. Many viewers had a tough time envisioning what a second season could be.
Now that the finale has aired, ABC has confirmed that episode 10 was indeed the last episode of the low-rated series, eliminating any question that there will be a second season.
For her part, series creator Stephanie Savage agrees with that decision and told TV Insider, “To us on the creative side, it’s always been a mini-series with a beginning, middle and end, with no possibility of a Season 2 because we told the story. I love that a lot of people love the characters and the world, but I don’t really see how this story gets told over again.”
Based on the book by Lily Koppel, The Astronaut Wives Club focuses on seven women who were key players behind some of the biggest events in American history. As America’s astronauts were launched on death-defying missions, the lives of their young wives were transformed — seemingly overnight — from military spouses to American royalty. The cast includes Yvonne Strahovski, Dominique McElligott, Odette Annable, Joanna García, Erin Cummings, Azure Parsons, Zoe Boyle, Bret Harrison, Aaron McCusker, Wilson Bethel, Kenneth Mitchell, and Desmond Harrington.
What do you think? Do you like The Astronaut Wives Club TV show? Would you have been open to watching a second season?
I LOVED this show. Not only me, but my whole family watched it together, ages 7 through 67 and we all enjoyed this weekly step back into time. I actually never expected a season 2, realizing that this was a limited time frame and could tell by the speed at which they were covering the different missions that it was probably intended to be a mini-series, one season type show. I hope the ratings and feedback were high enough to send a message that there is a valid audience for these types of shows. I hope that next season ABC… Read more »
Disappointed they are ending the show…looked forward to it each week. Love looking back on a simpler time then today’s world of living.
I am old enough to remember these astronauts and each televised launch. This series brought back vivid memories of the exciting space race, and it is so interesting to learn about the wives. I loved the series. Ditto on the previous comments of all the reality crap they throw at us now. This was so much better and I’m sad that ABC chose to cancel it.
I definitely would have continued watching! Loved the series!
I loved the show. The cast of women that were ensembled for this show were phenomenal!! I will miss this show greatly and I wish it would have continued.
I will miss this show and the characters quite terribly. I loved everything about it in its entirety. I appreciated all points of view it provided. Very disappointed there won’t be a new season.
I am so disappointed in this decision. This was such a great series among the reality crap they air. How do you extend it? How about the next set of wives or the Space Shuttle Era? You could have done so much with Teacher in Space competition and shuttle explosion. Just keep writing. It doesn’t have to be on these ladies only. (Althought, I will miss Betty). Such a mistake to cancel this show. Bring it back next summer, please!!
I agree! Finally a show worth watching. So sick of all the reality crap.
It seems like every show my husband and I like gets cancelled.
They could have definitely stretched astronaut ‘s wives out longer by providing more detail.
I Absolutely Loved the Astronaut Wives Club it was a welcomed change from all of the reality shows out there.I was born in 1959 so for me it was rich in history and sparked my interest to learn more about the NASA program. I will really miss the show.
They could have told this story in much more detail and had a season two or possibly 3. That being said, to continue, I was assuming they would move on to the shuttle wives.
I had read somewhere, a couple of weeks ago, that it was renewed. I assumed it would be about the shuttle program, and telling the stories of the shuttle disasters.
I enjoyed watching the Astronaut Wives.
It was very informative & interesting.
When I watched the finale, I thought this would be the end because it had nowhere to go.
I gave The Astronaut’s Wives several chances. It was not interesting. The acting was ok but, it did not grip you to make you stay hooked.
Agreed. It was ok, but if I missed part of it I really didn’t care, or didn’t miss anything important to the story.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the finale — “Was this a season finale, or series finale? Where can they take this show now?” I enjoyed the series but, I agree, this one is better left where it ended.
I wonder if ABC actually thought ratings would be higher if called a series rather than the mini-series it was.
This was entertaining. The networks waste so much time with shows that are bad from the start, and remakes after remakes. I have stopped watching new shows. If they make season 2-3 that’s when I start watching. I don’t get involved wrapped in a show that doesn’t last. If more people started this maybe when shows actually start production there survival rate improves. Who wants to see remakes from decades ago again and again. Mork and Mindy 12 , Odd Couple 44 LOL …….
I loved “The Astronaut’s Wives”. I learned a lot and wish it could go on.
