The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

Maybe NBC needs to take some responsibility for low ratings. You do not advertise this program enough. NBC should have supported/promoted the BH show more. I quit watching Kelly & Regis to watch BH. This is the only program I watch on this station. The way I found out about the BH show was through channel surfing. I have watched it ever since. I even have told other people about it and they watch it now. Bonny Hunt is great and she will survive this. The last 2 years were not a waste for her. It gave her exposure and… Read more »
You go GIRL!!!!!!!!
First off she’s a fellow Chicagoan as I am. She has that great Midwest appeal .Some of the other shows that are still running should have been canceled after you guys ran the pilots!!!! Go Cubs
The Bonnie Hunt Show makes me smile and laugh every time I watch the Show, which is almost everyday. This show has something that the rest of the daytime shows are lacking. There has to be a different station that will pick up the Bonnie Hunt Show. I have never written to any cause on the internet, except this one. I will miss the show so much. Hopefully, I can find it on another station. Please let everyone know if it does get picked up. Thanks for the intertaining, funny, caring and heart-felt show. Pam of Albuquerque
I can not believe you are going to cancel the Bonny Hunt show. The Bonny Hunt show is one of the most enjoyable talk shows to watch. Bonny has such great love for animals and life and her guests and staff on her show. One feels like you actually know Bonny. It is like bringing a beloved relative into your home each and every day! She brings joy and laughter to me each weekday. I can only hope that you reconsider your misguided judgement call and keep the Bonny Hunt show on your network. Truly she is the highlight of… Read more »
The difference between BH and the other talk shows is the warmth, humor, and genuine affection for humanity. It appears as if the others vie for the “usual” celebrities while Bonnie books people of various levels of fame. So much better, so much nicer to enjoy. Her staff and she share a lifetime together, and her mom is a joy to behold, answering questions from experience with an eye to guiding and caring for the individual. Bonnie doesn’t lecture, she informs as if we were all sitting in her home chatting. We are up to our gills with Oprah, bothered… Read more »
My husband and I DVR The Bonnie Hunt Show DAILY. We are both amazed at how funny and CLEAN her show is!! Really, it’s a flashback to a time on TV when Talk Show Hosts were witty, polite, interesting (and actually interested in their guests), and CLASSY!! It’s so refreshing to watch her – we laugh out loud every time we watch the show. And lucky for us, it’s recorded, so we get to rewind and laugh all over again. We always look forward to what she and her staff are going to do (they are all hilarious!!) and always… Read more »
How disturbing that this wonderful show is coming to an end. Bonnie is so funny and has some really great guests and doesn’t force her opinions on us. Her mother is a gem! I really hope something happens that the show can continue somehow…maybe on another network. This is a huge loss to daytime programming!
It just figures, it’s just like everything else around us, people are told what we have
to like even when we don’t. When we like something as in BH, it doesn’t matter that
we like the show. It’s what the “all mighty” wants us to watch!!! Her show is
delightful, funny and it’s what people want to watch when times are bad. Keep
her on!!!!!!!
I can’t believe they are cancelling the Bonnie Hunt show. I watch it all the time. I really hope they change their minds and leave it on – it’s a great show!
Why oh, why, would the powers that be even consider cancelling the Bonnie Hunt Show? Maybe for another “sexy” soap opera? How about another stupid game show? Bonnie Hunt has one of the best talk shows on TV, and it is a shame that NBC can’t see that. She is humorous, sensible, and adores her audience. I don’t need any more lectures on how to live my life from the likes of Oprah! PLEASE KEEP BONNIE ON THE AIR, PLEASE!
PLEASE KEEP BONNIE ON THE AIR, PLEASE.
Exactly what does “moderation” mean regarding my comments
@Pat Bedard: It means that comments must be approved on our end before they are posted. It’s to prevent excessive profanity, hateful comments and spam from appearing on this site. It can sometimes take a little while since we don’t have someone doing this 24/7.
I completely understand what she means by moderation. I imagine whoever is moderating is amazed at how tame and wonderful all of Bonnie’s fans are. That is because we are virtually talking about a tame yet wonderful show. Shouldn’t a show like this (one without confrontation and verbal misuse) give pause as to why it should definitely continue. Once this comment section ends, and Bonnie’s show ends, all of us will retire into our sad rooms, and utter words you would never print here.LOL-me again??
I can’t believe you will actually cancel the only morning show that touches the heart of everyone that watches. I know that TV is a business and that ratings are the only thing that is important to the “big guys”. There is no shortage of programming for the masses who obviously love screaming & gossip. Bonnie Hunt was the only refreshing hour of the morning for me and many other “normal” people who like to start their day on the positive side of life. Bonnie, her whole cast and crew and especially her Mother’s practical advise segments make Bonnie’s show… Read more »
Too Kat,
No one is yelling. I don’t get you. These are just people venting about losing someone who is like a family member. There is so much garbage on t.v. It is just nice to have someone not assaulting us with opinions that go against family values. Get real.
I just cannot believe that you are still going to cancel one of the best shows you have put
on your Channel….Unbelievable….. Totally mindless and downright stupid.
Don’t you like a clean show??? Bonnie is fantastic and totally enjoyable. It should be a
two hour show.
There will be NO good shows to watch during the day. Don’t care for Ellen D. but we love
Bonnie Hunt. Please advertise her show and sign her up for at least another year.
Thank you, now right up a new contract for Bonnie Hunt…..NOW…
