The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

We are so MISSING Bonnie & her gang!! We saved several episodes and have watched them a few times. It really was a bright spot of the day, lots of laughter and fun. I really hope and pray Bonnie will get another chance in the near future!!!
I am truly sad to see The Bonnie Hunt show leave daytime television. I always enjoyed watching Bonnie. From her infections smile and laugh, her mother’s wisdom, the children she brought on, the animal rescue, and even the rescue of the man who needed the lung transplant. It is very rare to find such quality television with humor, heart, and charity. Bonnie was the whole package and I have no idea why her ratings went down. I for one think things have gone backwards. People would rather watch shows about who is sleeping with who, rather than watching a show… Read more »
Ellen, I’m told it’s not NBC, or in my area FOX, that canceled her it’s Warner Bros. and I’ve looked for months on a way to get comments, and opinions to them. Only snail mail, and will ‘they’ really get it! We are trying a Facebook page, a FB page got Betty White to host SNL.! We are also requesting a Best of Bonnie DVD. Bring the Bonnie Hunt Show back! I just discovered it, and I doubt that I’m the only one who discovered it 3 months ago & is enjoying it…only to find out it was canceled last winter, it’s a loss for America, as said before. I hope another network picks it up.
There are so few things worth watching these days and the Bonnie Hunt Show was certainly one of them. I’m savoring the reruns and will keep watching until they’re off the air.
With this kind of support, you wonder why the network cancelled the show. Hey, NBC, nobody is perfect! Please feel free to admit that you made a mistake and put the Bonnie Hunt Show back on! Thanks!!
Bonnie Hunt show has been a part of my routine for the last couple of years. It’s on CBS where I live in the morning at 9 AM. It’s one of the shows that always gives me something to smile about and I don’t know what I will do when the reruns quit, probably just turn the tv off.
Bonnie Hunt must return to Daytime. She has such a huge following and she is also so very entertaining. Why would someone want to cancel ‘David Letterman’s favorite guest’. She is so down-to-earth and so very funny. She has many worthy causes and really promotes family. What a wonderful actress, wit and a most of all a warm and compassionate human being. We don’t need another game show…we need Bonnie Hunt!
I hope she gets a night-time show. Or hope she goes to Chicago live. I will watch, as I am sure many other fans will. God bless her and her wonderful staff.
Your article asks why the show “failed.” Bonnie’s show didn’t fail, the networks failed Bonnie! She’s funny, smart, compassionate – entertaining in every way. Surely daytime TV has room for shows that don’t have arguments over who da baby daddy, who cheated, & misc dysfunctions on every level. Watched a re-run today – one where Bonnie gave much needed air time to dogs from “Used Pets.” Brought tears to my eyes as I thought of how homeless animals (& other worthy causes) are losing a powerful media outlet. Shame on the networks for failing to support this classy, funny, socially… Read more »
I loved the Bonnie Hunt show. Won an Emmy and then they take it off. Go figure. This is one of the better shows on tv. Instead they are going to bring Rosie O’Donnell back on . I just don’t understand who makes these type of decisions. Please bring her back.
Unfortunately, Bonnie was nominated for an Emmy but didn’t win (“Dr. Oz” won the Emmy instead).
I cannot understand why the show got cancelled…a good CLEAN show apparently cannot succeed against all the courtroom reality shows that areon at that time…it’s ridiculous. BRING THE BONNIE HUNT SHOW BACK!
I am answering “Why do you think The Bonnie Hunt Show failed”. It didn’t fail…It met our expectations. What FAILED was the lack of promoting her. No Commercials, I missed the first season because I didn’t know she had a show on. It took one show, and I was hooked!! Bonnie picked an OUTSTANDING crew, plus her mother Alice is drop dead FUNNY and so sweet. We know where Bonnie gets it! Bonnie is a class act and deserves a better network that will promote her properly! Also, we are requesting a Best Of Bonnie DVD! Bonnie Hunt and her entourage have provided us with fresh, innovative, fun, wholesome, long-sought for, family entertainment during the daytime. She did not miss any mark. We did. There are no shows like hers! Yay Bonnie. You are unique in all the world and so is your humor.Yay Bonnie. Shame on the network execs. who do not have the balls to stick it out and spend a little money to advertise/promote Bonnie Hunt and this show…..she deserves to know that most of America would love to see her and hear her and enjoy the humor, heart and intelligence she shares… Read more »
Kimberly,
You sound like a pretty special person. Bonnie was such a good example. we need more of her.
Sad to see this show go. It was nice to have a host that is real and down to earth. I have enjoyed all her work and was a daily watcher of the currents shows. I had a choice of Ellen or Bonnie and Bonnie won every time! Don cha know we northerners stck together.
To Kimberly,
Did you not notice all the bashing that was directed at the previous administration. No retaliations took place. Please do not blanket all Republicans in this way. They care as well.
Bonnie Hunt was such a blessing and did not devide but brought people together. We will all miss her so much. I know I have a big hole in my heart.
Thanks Sue, I never noticed any political bashing, except for that one comment. All comments, on this blog, should only be about The Bonnie Hunt Show. You’re right, we will all miss the show very much.
