A&E has decided to get rid of another original drama series. After two years on the air, they’re dropping The Cleaner.
In The Cleaner, Benjamin Bratt plays William Banks, a recovering drug addict from Los Angeles. Following the birth of his daughter, Banks made a deal with God that he would end his drug use and help others beat their addictions as well. He and his team of recovering addicts use whatever means necessary to help end others’ addictions. Others in the cast include Grace Park, Esteban Powell, Kevin Michael Richardson, Amy Price-Francis, Liliana Mumy, and Brett DelBuono.
The drama kicked off on July 15, 2008 and attracted 2.58 million viewers with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demo. Season one averaged 1.1 million viewers in initial viewings and 4.2 million through multiple airings. A&E boasted that The Cleaner was the network’s highest rated original drama to date among adults 18-49 and 25-54.

When the show was renewed for a second season, Bob DeBitetto, A&E’s President and General Manager, said, “The Cleaner has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal audience in its first season… Its authentic, dramatic storytelling combined with superb acting, led by an exceptional performance by Benjamin Bratt, has struck a chord with A&E viewers. It is exactly the sort of high quality, engaging programming that our fans have come to expect.”
Now, following a drop in ratings for season two, A&E has changed its mind about The Cleaner. The second round of episodes concluded on September 15th and, according to THR, the cable channel has decided not to order a third.
No reason was given for the cancellation but A&E typically draws more viewers for cheaper, unscripted programming. The Beast, another A&E drama, was cancelled earlier this year, months prior to star Patrick Swayze’s death.

I CANNOT believe you canceled this show!!!! It was one of the best on TV..There are so many more that need cancellation but NOT this one…The acting was superb and Benjamin Bratt and the other cast were fantastic!!! You should have given it more time and more publicity.. You really need to bring it back…It was the best drama I have seen in a very long time..! Dropping this was wrong it was so good for every person who has, or who will ever deal with the drug issue..

I held out such hope for TV scheduling for the new season…..until now. A&E in my opinion you have made a huge mistake. Now I suppose you will follow suit with the rest of the low-rate shows on the other channels. How many crime dramas and reality shows can a person stomach.
I loved this show! Was really watchable and the story lines were great. Unfortunate they let something like this go. I think it was one of those shows that made tv worth watching again…unlike most of the garbage on right now. Jersey Shore ring a bell???
I am so dumbfounded that such a great show like The Cleaner would be cancelled. With tv shows getting worse by the day with reality shows ad nauseum, it was such a worthwhile show to watch and get something from! A really bad decision on A&E’s part.
A&E is wack they have ******** shows that are overated and repetative the CLEANER was on of the best series out there hands down….. A&E YOU SUCKKKKKKK!!!!!!
Are you people Nuts!!!! This was an amazing cast/ Amazing series!!! Frickin crap reality ******** to watch now with nothing but losers on! Whatever !! totally great story line always about real life problems that are important but lets keep Jersey Shores or desperate housewives on instead!!! I give up on getting glued to a series!

In a era where there are no Heros coming out of Hollywood, it’s too bad that you had to cancel The Cleaner. I can’t remember the stupid show of the guy who was dying and was making crystal meth, but you kept that show. No Guts No glory. Maybe if you can possibly come up with something decent to watch, I would consider watching A&E again. Let me know if you decide to bring on a show with as much character as The Cleaner had.

The Cleaner was one of the best shows EVER!!!!! There are people going through all that this show stood for !!!! I believe it changed my attitude in dealing with my daughters drug addiction! I know a lot of teenagers that watched it also!!!! A show like this should never be cancelled!!!!! It probably was saving lives!!!! PLEASE bring it back!!!!!!!!!It should be shown in schools! It might help save someones loved one!!!!!
I am truly upset to see that “The Cleaner” was cancelled it was one of the best shows on A&E! It was nice to see something that wasn’t a reality show for a change, with great acting and story lines people could relate to.
