After months of uncertainty, the fantasy/mystery series has been cancelled and won’t be returning for a second season.
The Dresden Files was based on a series of novels by Jim Butcher and followed the adventures of Harry Dresden, a wizard who helped the police solve cases. The show debuted on the Sci Fi Channel on January 21, 2007 and ran for 12 episodes. Though the series’ ratings weren’t very strong, a loyal fanbase had hoped that Dresden Files would be renewed for a sophomore year. That didn’t happen and Sci Fi has now confirmed that the series is done.
Perhaps not coincidentally, this news comes on the same day that its been announced that Dresden Files star Paul Blackthorne has joined the cast of new ABC drama Big Shots. Blackthorne will play a high-powered CEO that draws the envy of characters played by Joshua Malina, Dylan McDermott, Christopher Titus, and Michael Vartan. Big Shots will begin airing this Fall on Thursday nights, following Grey’s Anatomy on ABC. Stay tuned!
I absolutely loved this show! I was so looking forward to seeing it again this Fall. I can’t believe it’s been cancelled after just one season. Like so many others the series did turn me on to the books and they are amazing! I don’t think I’ll be watching SCIFI anymore. They just keep breaking my heart….
The Dresden Files is a spectacular representation of Jim Butcher’s books! That’s why we have NOT given up on getting it back! The New Home 4 Dresde Petition that I posted (scroll up) now has over 3,000 signatures & MAGIC MONDAY!! starts 9/10. Come help us Save Harry & Bob at dresdencity.org!!!
We loved The Dresden Files and really looked forward to Season 2. We’re big sci fi fans and just hope and pray that Eureka gets a better fate. Thanks for all the comments regarding the books.
What a bummer. I really enjoyed the show, the cast. Finally something besides those reality shows. Here’s hoping the fans change get them to change their minds.
Figures, it seems that by the time I get to see a show it has been canceled. Early to bed, early to rise makes a man miss most of the traffic.
I caught a Dresden Files day on Sci-Fi and loved it. I am now in the process of listening to all the books. The only way to spend a commute.
I loved The Dresden Files, it was a great show. Why do the cancel all the good shows? Its just not fair.
gah! my son got me into reading these books, and i couldn’t wait for the series on dvd (i am boycotting the sci-fi channel). liked the dvd’s as well, and now i see the show’s been cancelled. what gives? idiots in charge of tv lineup…
Never heard of this show/series until it came to hollywood video. Watched the whole 12 episodes in a row and looked to see when more would come out and found it was cancelled. Maybe because most normal families had never heard of it before.no good plugs anywhere that is why..be nice to see more but in reality how could they if the stars are already cast in another series. Oh well a shame, will have to check out the books. Pay all of this money for cable and then you hear all of your favorite shows are cancelled.
I am glad there was a show, but not sad that it is off, but it was too conservative. Hopefully sales of the DVDs will finance an animated series where Murphy is a cute blond, Bob is an air spirit, Justin is a french-fry, and we get to see Marcone.
NO WAY! This was a great series – totally fresh, with a hot actor and lots of interesting plot twists. PLEASE reconsider!
Ah crap, I really was enjoying the show. I find it hard to believe an entity that calls itself the SciFi channel can cancel something like the Dresdan Files yet keep some lame Wrestling show on. Very, disappointing and downright insulting to Science Fiction/Fantasy fans. On the plus side, the TV show lead me to the books. I am in the fourth book and have a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend them.
Its time that we stop enabling stations to do what they want with no chance of retribution.
Stop watching shows on that channel. If we did this on all the channels that cancelled our favorite shows, someone might get the hint that we are pissed.
Damn, I was looking forward to season two of Dresden files. It was a slow start, but was picking up speed and was looking very promising. At the very least, its for sale on Amazon.
Execs- Please, give yourselves a cranial-analectomy and revive the series.
At least Jim Butcher is writing more.
Loved the Dresden files. Then
I read all the books and loved it even more. Already have bought the DVD, will enjoy watching it again and again. Great sound and very clear DVD image.
You would think the guys at Scifi would have learned from what happened to the series Firefly. It takes a while to build a fan base. The Dresden files would have really exploded in the second season. It had all the componets of being a hit series. It had alot original story lines. Will the TV gods never learn from past mistakes. How big would Star Trek have been after 12 episodes.
