Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

PLEASE, PLEASE, Find a new home for this series. Is absolutely one of the best Sifi shows on TV. Syfi channel or Payper view, what ever. Continue on this this wonderful and creative experience!!!!!
[…] that there are still official efforts to keep the show alive. When the show was cancelled, it was reported that talks were underway to possibly continue the series […]
In Denmark, TV3 bought The Event and season 1 was a huge success here. I can’t help thinking that if NBC keeps cancelling shows, eventually they will not only loose US viewers, but also loose business abroad. I can’t imagine that foreign networks won’t hesitate to buy new shows from them if this continues. They loose viewers on this too. They’ve lost me for sure! The Event is such a great show, I hope it finds a new home so we/the fans can some sort of ending to the story. If you like the show, please visit this group on… Read more »
Why cancel a show thats just getting started. Why even bother to get interested in a series when at any time they can pull the plug. They don’t even give you notice the just drop the ball and its over. This is a good series and its bound to get even better, please keep it on so I can keep the faith that good shows will remain on.
i like the event and many other show’s being cancelled. my gripe is that we viewers watch these show’s only to have then dropped with no conclusion. the networks should make a 2 hour final to wrap up any series. i am tried of trying new show’s so i mostly watch movies and old tv. as networks keep losing viewers they will eventually realize that the viewer’s won’t take it anymore, of course it will be to late to do anything about it.
I really hope this show continues. It is one of the best shows on TV. I lo0k forward to each new episode. I agree with others, cancel some, or ALL of the reality shows instead.
Fully agree. Great show. You have to wonder why networks either change time slots or allow long hiatis periods to kill a good show. Does quality matter anymore or are many of the viewer to unsufisticated to reconize it over the reality shows or the other mundane mediocraty that’s constantly put out there.
Once again NBC shows their lack of creativity by cancelling The Event. It was one of their best, if not their best, drama/storyline show in their pitiful schedule. Why can’t there be a place on the TV schedule for shows like this? Cancel some of the mindless reality shows instead.
This is the only good—even great drama thriller on TV now. How could NBC cancel the best show in their line up…..
i never watched a better show than the event – there is so much going on in every episode – monday was my favorite day – please continue this amazing show
the show “the event” can not be cancelled! it must continue! we r crazy 4 it – the actors do an amazing job – its the best thriller action show ever, u can compare it to 24 or to prison break – please continue the show
I like this show very much and NBC have never been the best of broadcasters. Take it to History or Discovery there is a lot of live watchers there. FAN!!!!
Please keep this show alive, it is the best thing since the first 4 seasons of LOST. SyFi Channel might be a good fit.
Based on a ture story. Reality show are an accident, like chocolate and peanut butter is. Here how the REALITY story goes; They were two twin brothers at the same Network. Brother Ned, (was the Network Executor). Brother Ted ( was the Executive Producer of prime time series show). Ned told Ted that the network was going to cancel Ted’s series show. Ted went home where his mom, dad and his crack head son, Ron all lived together in Ted’s mansion. Ted enter the room where his dad was watching his favorite show,” Wrestling”. Ted explain to his dad, that Ned was… Read more »
