Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

I just watched the last episode of The Event and I really, really, really hope someone else picks it up.
we love the show keep it going!
I really hope they continue The Event,,,it’s one of best shows I’ve watched since Lost
One of the most intelligent sci-fi shows on tv. Season 1 finale was great fun and a perfect set-up for many more story lines. Can’t imagine why NBC is letting it go. I’d be ecstatic to see it on Sy-Fy channel or Netflix. Would be outraged if it came with a pricetag!
My husband and I love this show! We hope there’s another season, if not on NBC
then move it to SciFi or anywhere. The closing line in tonight’s show —the Pres.’s
son asks his mom what it was in the sky and she said “HOPE”!!! We hope there are
many more episodes of THE EVENT.

What a great and suspenseful show! YES, I’d pay to watch a season two. I’m so tired of all the “law and order” and “criminal” shows. The Event has turned into a real cliff hanger, and it would be sad to see it terminated altogether. Keep working for a new home for it, NBC. I agree with other comments that you can’t break up a show mid season and expect fans to return to it in greater numbers. It now has a good fan base, and many of us would keep watching!
I have really looked forward to watching the Event each week. I agree that breaking up the season was a bad idea. We were left hanging for an ending. I am hoping for a Season 2 somewhere if not on NBC.
I enjoy the show. I hope a new home is found to continue the unfolding of the story. It’s a shame NBC can’t see through the fog to the other side.
I’d like to see it continue. I want to know what’s in those scrolls.
Less violence, more character development.
And why were those little kids being experimented on? Where is Leila’s little sister anyway?
I think the show ahould be saved. The story line was excting and moved along with a good pace. I would pay to see it.
Please leave the Event on. This is one show that I have enjoyed watching and anticipating every Monday and would miss it and not have much to watch on Monday. I am very diappointed in NBC FOR CANCELING THIS SHOW!!!!!
Save The Event. It’s one of the most exciting science fictions shows ever created.
Hi…hope you do not cancel this show…everyone at work watches every week and discuss it every Tuesday….its like “24” and the “X-Files” rolled into one!!!!!

Just saw the finale.A little predictable but the ending was amazing..Yes,please…someone pick this show up!
I am a viewer in the UK and was also unhappy to hear The Event was to be cancelled. All I will say my American friends is that you need to show your loyalty to the show – no-one will pay any attention unless they know they have an audience – its support like that that has kept Chuck on the air! I am not experienced enough but some sort of petition to the showrunners should be the next move. Two more points: – Stop with the breaking up of seasons! It destroys the momentum of the show – it… Read more »
if the network had just left the show on the air without that mid-season break, the ratings would have stayed up. stopping a good program in the middle and then expecting people to pick it up later is ridiculous. no more mid-season breaks!
