Syfy announces that following the conclusion of last night’s airing of THE EXPANSE’s second episode, Episodes 1-4 of the critically-acclaimed series have been made available on Syfy.com and On Demand cable, satellite and telco TV platforms. The move makes the series’ third and fourth episodes available in advance of their Syfy linear premieres on December 22 and 29. An epic 10-part series called “a real kickass spaceship show, done right” by George R.R. Martin, THE EXPANSE airs regularly on Syfy on Tuesdays at 10PM ET/PT.
The release of Episodes 1-4 follows the successful pre-linear debut of THE EXPANSE’s first episode, which was sampled 4.4 million times* during its November 23 to December 14 run on Syfy.com, On Demand platforms and numerous digital outlets.
Said Sara Moscowitz, Senior Vice President, Brand and Strategic Marketing, Syfy: “By giving viewers the opportunity to watch Episodes 3 and 4 early, we’re not only providing a little holiday gift for the series’ existing fans, but we’re also allowing new viewers who’ve heard about THE EXPANSE to catch up on the series. With the potential to hook a broad audience over the holidays, we hope to debut Episode 5 to a committed, passionate fan base on January 5.”
Set 200 years in the future, THE EXPANSE follows the case of a missing young woman that brings a hardened detective (Thomas Jane, Hung) and a rogue ship’s captain (Steven Strait, Magic City) together in a race across the solar system that will expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. The series is based on the New York Times bestselling book series collectively known as The Expanse, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey).

Have you watched the first two episodes of The Expanse TV series? What do you think of it, so far? Do you plan to check out the third and fourth episode, before they air on the Syfy channel? Let us know, in the comments.
There are shows on tv that are well written, well acted and are exceptional in its development but are lost initially by poor ratings. Some, like Rectify , have a hardcore fan base and a network (Sundance) that gets behind the shows vision. I hope the same can be said of The Expanse. It is Hard Science Fiction with a lot of heart and soul but being that it is a more expensive show to produce , it would be harder to convince the Syfy network to renew the show if it does poorly ratings wise. Robb.P, saying this is Syfy’s best offering since Battlestar Galactica is saying something. Thank you for reading, and for your thoughtful comment.
Very happy with the show so far. I hope they stay pretty true to the book. Its not to complex to do as a TV show. No reason to make a ton of changes.
First 4 episodes were just excellent – episode 4 in particular was just incredible. This has wildly exceeded my hopes and if they can continue with this quality, this will be a major hit in my opinion.
The Expanse is a great show and I hope you run a complete season this does show deserves besides complete season another season
Martin, I’ve recorded it, but haven’t yet watched it. Would you say it is appropriate for a 15 year old to watch? I think my son would love it, but I want to check it out, before I put it on his radar.
Generally i would say “yes”, but there is a longer VERY gory scene in Episode 4. So i find it hard to decide :/
Thank you, Greg.
Have watched all four and they are great (everyone getting better than the previous ones),
A question though, the ratings are apparently not as good as hoped; but with the first episode having been “sampled 4.4 million times” (including by me) how do you figure out how big it’s total audience was?
