After a disappointing run, ABC has decided to prematurely end the forgotten’s freshman season. Is the Christian Slater TV show being cancelled?
Airing on ABC, the forgotten follows a group of talented civilians who work together to find missing persons once the police have reached a dead end. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains.
The show debuted on September 22nd and attracted a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.54 million viewers. It lost a large percentage of its lead-in and 12% tuned out before the episode was over. The second installment of the forgotten fell significantly and the rest of the season has been averaging just a 1.7 rating 6.49 million viewers.
Last week, ABC announced that they were preempting the March 16th installment of the forgotten in favor of a FlashForward recap show. Now, they’re pulling the March 23rd episode as well. Next week’s installment, “Donovan Doe,” is the episode that was originally scheduled for the 23rd and may well wrap up the season.
Considering the poor ratings, the series is very likely to be cancelled and won’t be back for season two. It also doesn’t seem likely that they’ll get around to airing the remaining two episodes anytime soon, if at all.
What do you think? Should ABC find a way to air the remaining two episodes? Should the series be cancelled? Where did the forgotten go wrong?

Seriously Im so sock of starting to really really like a show and then they go and cancel it!!! Im at the point of not wanting to watch any new shows
I love this show, and Christian Slater. he’s such a great actor. I would hate to miss the next episodes! Keep the show on….and if not, at least finish out the season. Come on ABC, what are you really gonna replace it with that will earn you better ratings? Some crap like The Bachelor?? Ridiculous. This show has a great concept, and is actually meaningful. I’d be sad to see it go.
OK so maybe a select few kinds of people enjoy this type of show. I have enjoyed it since the first episode, I even PVR it so I don’t miss any episodes. I think it’s entertaining enough to watch every week because on the other stations at that time slot there isn’t anything I would rather watch. Please keep it on, I think it sends a great message.
In my opinion Rochelle Ates is one of the worst actors on TV. I like Christian Slater. He deserves a better supporting cast. He is fun to watch.
Awful from Day One. Should have been cancelled long ago but only was kept on because ABC is afraid of Bruckheimer. It never even beat Leno.
I like The Forgotten. I haven’t always watched it with the schedule I have. It’s interesting because the people are volunteers and not cops that identify these John and Jane Does. I don’t even know how that name got started. I guess that’s the problem with this world. People would rather have the same old boring shows on instead of intereging new shows. What might be sad is the fact that there are other good things on at the same time as The Forgotten. Wednesdays or Fridays might be a better timeslot since nothing really good is on then anyways.… Read more »
As a Mother with a missing adult child, I want to say I really wanted this show to be a hit. I think the biggest disappointment, and what caused parents with missing children and adult children to stop watching the show is due to the fact, the missing person was always found. That was a turn off for all of us and our many thousands of supporters. The victim is “rarely” ever found. This could be a great show, but you need to work with myself and other families on our real cases. Base your show on real life “Forgotten”… Read more »
You go Gloria, that’s what I was talking about. Get some real cases involved. Even in Cold Case, Law and Order, CSI etc….you can see the resemblence to some real cases in the headlines. I think the show ought to focus on a real case and and investigate it. This would mix reality with some drama. AND the word would get out to help find some of these missing people. Needs a twist. I don’t think there is a reality/drama mix out there. I CAN’T BELIEVE PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIVE IN FANTASY LAND AND WATCH STUPID STUFF LIKE THE BACHELOR! Who’s… Read more »
there is still 6 n 1/2 mil people whom love this show and alot of shows arent even known till second season c’mon abc get with it. We were watching it online till u took it off many of us veiw online due to hardship of getting cable. Getting tired of warching new shows loving them just to have them cancelled do u think maybe thats why people are leary of watching new shows? the forgotten didnt go wrong abc did for taking it offline and now abc is walking out of cable in cetain places many shows will loose… Read more »
i love the show…dang every time i find a show i enjoy they take it off before the first season is over..
That sucks!!! My husband and I love the show. Save the show.
What a shame! I thought this was a good show, although was a little weak to start. Cast doesn’t seem to have much chemistry but seemed it was picking up with the new cast member just added. This show does have such meaning and has helped solve a 20+ year old mystery already. I volunteer on DoeNetwork.org. It’s just like the plight of missing and unidentified people, it has taken all these years for a national database to be created (NamUs) and now with it canceling early, the word will not get out. It just goes to show, if your… Read more »
no don’t cancel love this show
Felt too much like COLD CASE but not as well done. Needed more energy and a better cast. Slater can’t carry a show.
I love this show. The networks keep such junk on yet cancel shows with meaning. With all of the cancelling & juggling.. better off tuning in to pure cable!
This is another show that I wanted very much to like, with an intriguing concept and good ideas for stories, but the execution was bad. Several of the characters were weak (Rochelle Aytes’ “Grace Russell,” in particular), and the stories lacked much real drama as the team followed the same process each week to resolve the case. I’m not sure why it was ever placed in the 10PM “adult” slot, since it seemed more in line with 8PM “family hour” shows. It could have been a worthy successor to “Without a Trace,” but instead yawned its way to a deserved… Read more »
