Though ABC didn’t have much luck with their Eastwick drama, the network is trying another kind of supernatural series, The Gates, for the summer months. Will this one make it to season two?
The Gates revolves around a big city cop who moves his family to a quiet gated community where many of the residents aren’t exactly what they appear to be. The ensemble cast includes Rhona Mitra, Colton Haynes, Frank Grillo, Janina Gavankar, Chandra West, Luke Mably, James Preston, Marisol Nichols, Skyler Samuels, Travis Caldwell, Victoria Platt, and Justin Miles.
The series debuted on Sunday, June 20th, to an unimpressive 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 4.78 million viewers. Considering all of the network’s promotion, this was a disappointing start. The premiere ranked first in the demo and second in total viewers for the timeslot.

In week two, viewership for The Gates dropped by about 30%. The demo fell to a 1.1 rating and total viewership came down to only 3.24 million. That put the show in second place in the demo and in third place for viewers.
Though ABC has lower expectations for this summer show, the ratings do not bode well for the show’s future on the network. Unless more people start watching, it’s hard to imagine that we’ll be seeing season two.
For now, let’s hope they show all 13 episodes of season one. The Gates is expected to run until September 19th but, with ratings like these, it’s not hard to imagine the network replacing them with something else.
What do you think? Is The Gates worth watching or would you just cancel it already? (Want to know how Scoundrels is doing? Go here.)

enjjoy the show;;;;;;;;
This show is a delight! I wait every sunday for this. Please dont cancel this please!!!!!!!
The Gates is a really good show… too good for summer!! I hope it stays! Look forward to watching every Sunday after True Blood!
“the gates” gets better and better with each episode. i hope abc not only shows all 13 episodes but also renews it for another season. alot of viewers i know who watch it ( usually on dvrs) arent part of the draconian ratings systems the network channels use. but i watch it after hbos true blood. sunday is vampire/werewolf night in my household. either way, everyone who watches “the gates” ends up loving it…and want more, more ,more
I love this show!!! I think all fans should unite and push to keep it!

I love this show, I am so hoping it does not get cancelled. I think ABC should give it a chance. Some people do not watch tv much in the summer, so they need to wait and see if fall will bring in more viewers. Don’t leave us hanging like you do with Happy Town, which I also liked.
I love The Gates! I’m really getting into it. I hope they don’t cancel because I look forward to watching also!
So tired of getting hooked on a show and then they talk of canceling it! The Gates is great! There must be something wrong with the rating system.
I love the Gates and cannot wait for each Sunday. I even watch it online in the middle of the week again because I simply cannot wait! PLEASE do not cancel this show! It keeps getting better and better.
I like The Gates. Hope it doesn’t get cancelled. Much better the Eastwick. I know they are trying to cash in on the vampire/Twilight phase, I thought these people would watch this show too. Something besides police and hospital drama.
I love this show, and Im starting to think it will make it to a second season. I certainly hope so.
I love this show but you can tell ABC is going to cancel it. The show started slow and now its going at full steam with secrets being revealed all over and the story moving quickly forward, leaving not much for any type of Season 2. It looks as though they are speeding it to a conclusion before the end of its 1st season in September.
Love the GATES……must keep.
LOVE the Gates! They HAVE to keep it!! Great show!!
this is a great show – i am tired of the whining on brothers and sisters – if u can’t keep it at this time slot find another for it – really good show – look forward to it every sunday nite
