As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

i never heard of it till i seen it on netflix i love it so much i now i am reading the show was canceld that sucks!!!!
you didnt even give people a chance to watch it i want it to come back on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So disappointed!!! Never heard of the show till Netflix and I loved the season.I just wish there was more, but that’s ABC they never advertise!!! To bad season was awesome. Hope another network picks it up quick. And Claire she was my favorite on the show.
Loved that show. Very upset there will not be another season. At least give us a finale.

Like others, I watched The Gates on Netflix and think it is an awesome series – probably one of the best that I’ve seen in a long time. I am not very happy to learn that the show was cancelled as episode 13 really does leave you hanging. This program needs to be brought back because it is absolutely great! It is much better than most other series out there and deserves a second chance.
I LOVED this show! I’m so upset right now. I was just looking on line to find out if it was coming back this summer for season 2 and now I see it was cancelled? I’m VERY disappointed in ABC for this decision. I think this series definitely needed more than just a summer run when people are not watching as much TV to prove its worth. It would be great if another network could pick it up!
I never heard of this show before watching it on netflix, and I’m mad! If I never heard of it, it must have not been advertised well. After watching on netflix, I want more!!! It probably didn’t get ratings because nobody knew it existed. please bring it back to life, I love it.
I think it is absolutely awful that such a great show is aired and then cut the next season. Many viewers like myself just get completely invested in the show and expect the next one and ABC decides to cut it out……ABC might not of had the ratings during the first season but they are going to lose more people who choose to watch ABC channels due to bad reputation of cutting shows after just one season!
I am so so so mad right now. Why do they always cancel the shows that i want to see but keep on the BS shows I don’t want to watch?! The Gates was one of my favorites. I hate ABC right now, I will no longer watch anything on this station!
I really loved the show and I’m currently watching last season on Netflix. I was so looking forward to the second season. I thought the show was well written and had a terrific cast.
The Gates was a refreshing change from the hum-drum and bogus reality shows. I hope ABC lets you guys do a 2-3 hour movie to close the series.
It was a great show.I wish Sci-Fi channel would pick it up and run with it.This kind of thing has happened my whole life, you really get into the show and they cancel it.At the end of each season ,they should always make a conclusion episode, just in case something like this happens.I know it would be a lot of money spent if it wasn’t over but we would all have some kind of closure .If any of the cast and crew reads this ,you had a great show.Thankyou.P.S. Call the Sci-Fi channel..Jerry in Las Vegas
I was so looking forward to the return of The Gates. Why do all the good shows not get at least two seasons before the networks decide to pull the plug.?
I just finished watching this on Netflix too. I agree not enough publicity. This show is great! Would have loved to see a season 2 and 3. Bad decision.
I watched every episode of this show with my girlfriend, but it wasn’t nearly as good as many other shows out there. Smallville, Supernatural, Trueblood and Boardwalk Empire to name a few were much more interesting. The Gates were very much like a soap opera with some Twilight injected into it. I wanted to see it succeed mainly because I wanted to see more shows that have supernatural topics (X-Files became solely about aliens after a while and Supernatural and Smallville are ending this season). At least Being Human is interesting (and to my knowledge, successful). I want to see… Read more »
This is so tragic, i watched The Gates on netflix and was so looking forward to seeing season 2 also because the last episode leaves you hangin! UGH!
