As expected A&E has cancelled The Glades after four seasons on the air. There won’t be a fifth season or wedding for Jim (Matt Passmore) and Callie (Kiele Sanchez).
The dramedy began in July 2010 and it became their first scripted series to last more than a season. The cancellation comes days after The Glades’ fourth season finale attracted 3.41 million viewers. This was the show’s most-watched episode since the series premiere which drew 3.55 million.
Unfortunately, the fourth season as a whole was down by 14% year-to-year and The Glades was the cable channel’s lowest-rated scripted series. It didn’t help that the show was also produced by Fox, an outside studio, so A&E didn’t have a financial stake in the show’s future.
Of course, the real losers are the fans. The fourth season ended on a cliffhanger with Jim being shot in the chest by an unknown assailant. Hopefully the producers will find a way to give faithful viewers an idea of what might have happened in season five.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that The Glades has been cancelled? How would you have resolved the cliffhanger? Should Jim and Callie be together?
I hate that it was cancelled, my wife and I along with many of our friends watched the show and loved the quick wit of “Jim”.
Whoever made the decision to cancel The Glades certainly ought to have informed the writers before they left us with a cliff hanger like this. (Anyone remember “Who shot JR?”) At the very minimum we loyal fans deserve to know who shot Jim, whether or not he survives, and whether or not there is a wedding. This is one of only 3 shows I watch on TV (one other is Longmire), and I HATE to see it canceled. But I’m afraid I do agree with Georgia: Jim’s smart, sassy remarks were becoming a bit cheesy of late. That can be… Read more »
I belive who is into reality shows is stupid .they get a good show like Glades Miami CSI that is entertainment.Ice roads trucker deadly catch, dirty jobs and Larry the cable guy learning to be a cheerleader really so we watch crap or reading is getting popular because nothing is on TV. OH I think Rays mom did it for Ray .but we need closure married new house and Callie solves the murder when the suspect is caught they get married and end show moving in the new house.while Jim is hanging on Callie went with what Jim would do… Read more »
I love The Glades and I cannot believe it is being cancelled. There are so many terrible shows on TV, however, it seems that the good shows always get cancelled. They should be able to have an ending (not cancellation) for the loyal viewers. We deserve it!
um not ok at least give us one more show to wrap it up…not just leave us hanging like that! Just saying !
The good shows with ENTERTAINMENT value always get cancelled. Why not cancelled some of REALITY shows that are useless and not really reality but just plain stupid.
Are you friggn’ kidding me? I though the major networks don’t tell mgt. their show is cancelled. Many cable chs. shows are told as to let them wrap=up for the loyal fans. This suck!!!
Evidently, the producers were let to believe the show was going to con’t. so they won’t leave us hanging.
I now the ratings we not good but never saw a promo on other chs. like some others. A&E is also owned with other chs. so where were the ad? Again, this sucks!
We loved the show. I really hope it doesn’t end…bring it back or let us know if he would have survived or not. I’m sure if there was a season five that he’d still be alive because what would the show be without Jim? Booo don’t cancel the show!
Please, please don’t cancel the Glades and don’t let Jeff die.
Jim
His name is Jim
Too bad that it was cancelled, cheesy comments and all. Would have really liked at least a happy ending, left me feeling very flat.
Who makes these rash decisions. Don’t you have your employers…the audience ……
to answer to.
Looks like WE don’t matter!!!
I can’t believe that they cancelled The Glades!
It had a good cast and it really was an enjoyable show…..too leave the fans hanging not a good move!
Please bring them back…..perhaps Fox can get another sponser
I was so ready to dump A&E over this decision to cancel Glades till I read this story again. The ratings have steadily declined for awhile. Advertisers look for higher ratings shows. Networks have to sell ads to survive.
Americans are so finicky about what they watch. Loyalty went out the window with most of our values.
This show NEEDS a resolution! Don’t leave us hanging, A&E!!
How about a two-hour movie ‘event’… Jim is dead, and his ghost has to solve the murder? (nah, too ‘1970’s ABC movie-of-the-week’ish). Jim survives the shooting, and we pick up 6 weeks later with him trying to solve his attempted murder.
Whatever you do, the show ends with him and Callie getting married! We regular viewers have a LOT invested in this relationship.
I agree, I really loved that show. To end it with Jim dying was so cruel. They were so great together. Can’t have any show end beautifully can they? But I agree, they can’t leave it like that. I mean we all know it was Ray?????
I think the writers are to blame. Jim’s clever comments turned into cheesy remarks. I hate it was cancelled, but glad to see Longmire was renewed.
I, too, liked Against the Wall, Lois.
I agree with Georgia about Jim’s comments. They should have gotten new writers! And, yes, I also like Longmire. Very believable and realistic.
Whoever is making these decisions (other favorite canceled shows “A Gifted Man”‘ “Against the Wall”) really ought to get a new profession. “They” keep cancelling entertaining shows with great casts – in many cases leaving the story line unfinished.
Definately, don’t cancel The Glades and bring the other 2 back.
