To no surprise, FOX’s The Good Guys has been cancelled after one season and 20 episodes. The series stars Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks as an unlikely team of Dallas detectives.
The Good Guys debuted last Spring to a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.93 million total viewers. Over the summer months, the ratings seemed to drop each week, hitting a low of a 1.0 rating and 3.42 million viewers.
Despite the poor showing, FOX kept the series on the fall schedule. On Friday nights, the numbers continued to slide. Good Guys hit a series low on October 22nd with a 0.6 rating and just 2.31 million viewers. Episodes typically ranked in last place for the demo in the timeslot. Realistically, no one has been expecting a second season renewal.
The series was shot on location in Dallas. Janis Burklund, head of the Dallas Film Commission, says that her high-ranking contact at Fox Television Studios has confirmed the show’s cancellation. The network hasn’t officially cancelled it but the production studio won’t be making any more episodes. The local area hasn’t had much luck this season. FOX’s Lone Star was cancelled after just two episodes and the episode order for NBC’s Chase has been reduced.
Of The Good Guys, Burkland said, “We liked the show. And they had a great experience here. But the ratings weren’t good. I asked if there was any shot at cable, and he said there didn’t appear to be any shot at that either, and I think it would have done well on cable. It’s not the kind of show network viewers understand — it’s too quirky. It’s one of those shows where either you get it or you don’t. Where cable viewers are more apt to go sampling and try out different stuff, network viewers are looking for more traditional shows. And it had a horrible time slot.”
The TV show’s sets are still intact at a local Dallas studio but will likely be struck in January. The final episode of Good Guys, titled “Partners,” aired on December 10th.
Update: Hanks confirmed the cancellation via his Twitter account on 12/27/10.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Good Guys has been cancelled and won’t be back for season two?

That sucks, It’s a great show. I’m mad Fox
I loved this show!!! It was so funny and different than all the other shows on TV! They need to get this show back on somehow. I hope it comes back. =(
Come on guys the show is awesome. OK show is just a little bit different, but because of it this show is great. Best regards from Croatia!
Please – bring them back!
please!! For the love of god!! This was the only fun thing
to watch on TV!! The Dan Stark character is incredibly funny. The
late 70’s/early 80s characature is insanely funny. Americans have
got to stop watching “reality” TV . Call entertainment and good
writing what it is … rather than mind numbing crap like Dancing
with the stars. We Americans get what we deserve….and mindless
crap will be our demise. They should be ashamed for getting rid of
quality.
This is a great show with great writing, it is now wonder
it is cancelled.
WOW!!! There is not much to say, but that I am not happy
with the cancling of The Good Guys. My future wife and I looked
foward every week to sitting down with each other and watching Dan
“Stach” my girl likes to call him, and Jack bust some punks. It is
a really funny show, and I’m suprised that the ratings were so low.
We will be sad and miss them. Hope it comes back.
The show was an uplifting and hilarious twist to a serious
occupation. If you put it in a more suitable time slot, the ratings
will only climb. Bring back the smiles and fun of this television
series.
Just Great! We finally get something besides “Watching paint dry with the Stars” and Fox cancels it. The show was smart and quirky. It should have been expected though, when Fox moved it to Friday night…horrible time slot!
I loved this show. It reminded me of some old memories of a dear friend when we were in Police Reserves together.I lost him to cancer several years ago. Dan reminds me so much of him. Please bring it back.
Thank You!!!!!!!!
Make this show return! how does one do this? this is one very entertaining and funny show. enjoyed each and every episode. whitley bradford is hilarious. bring this show back.
My Dad watches the show and he is not very sad that it’s cancelled. That sucks. PLEASE BRING IT BACK SO MY DAD CAN WATCH IT!!!
I am so sad this is cancelled. It is a quirky show, which is exactly why it should stay on the air. All shows these days are the same with the similar humour, we need something for those of us who want to spice things up. Somebody needs to pick this show up!
I am saddened it won’t be back. I loved the show and watched it religiously.
I loved the show! I thought the characters were great and really liked the theme. They need to give something longer than one season to catch on! Season, ha!, that’s a word that’s hard to use anymore. Some “seasons” are only a few weeks long!
