TV show description:
A period drama, this TV show is set in downtown New York City in 1900. It revolves around the Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses, and staff who work there. They push the boundaries of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics.
A brilliant surgeon, Doctor John Thackery (Clive Owen) is pioneering new methods in the field, despite nursing his secret and severe addiction to cocaine. He leads a team of physicians that include his protégé Doctor Everett Gallinger (Eric Johnson); young Doctor Bertie Chickering Jr. (Micahel Angarano); and Doctor Algernon Edwards (André Holland), a promising surgeon of color who’s been recently thrust upon him.
Others at the hospital include benefactor Captain August Robertson and his daughter Cornelia (Juliet Rylance); surly ambulance driver Tom Cleary (Chris Sullivan); fresh-faced nurse from the country Lucy Elkins (Eve Hewson); crooked hospital administrator Herman Barrow (Jeremy Bobb); and Sister Harriet (Cara Seymour), a nun who isn’t afraid to speak her mind.
There’s also health inspector Jacob Speight (David Fierro), a coarse man who’s not above taking a bribe to steer a patient to a particular hospital.
Episode #20 — This Is All We Are
Thackery eschews Zinberg’s advice at Mt. Sinai and opts for a dramatic, and risky, alternative course of action. Cornelia confronts Henry about his role in the family business; Barrow defends his actions at the hospital construction site; Gallinger considers a job opportunity; Cleary refuses to give up on Harriet.
First aired: December 18, 2015.
What do you think? Do you like The Knick TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Renew. I love it!
This show is wonderful please please do not cancel it.
Who was the apparent suicide victim? At the end of episode 7, I think, Thack is in an opium haze. Then you see him open a door revealing a blond man on the floor with a pistol nearby.
Please don’t cancel this show! This is a great interesting and different show that should continue. Seriously one of the best shows on TV.
I would like to see this show return but let’s focus on the medical / surgical aspects and less on the addiction of the star. A lot of good historical information was shared re: how surgery was done back then, health and social issues, architecture, clothing, transportation etc. The operation theater reminded me of the Ether Dome at Massachusetts General Hospital and the surgeries performed there. You lost the reality of the show by focusing on the addiction the last couple of episodes, which is really too bad, as the surgical procedures done at that time, the treatment of health… Read more »

Love this show and hope to see its return next season. All the actors are brilliant with the exception of one; the investigator from the CDC. The guy cannot act. He performs like a robot. His lines just do not see genuine
I love this show. The period detail is exquisite. The drama pulled from real history is enlightening. This is a period you don’t really see portrayed that much. The richness of inovation that rushed us into the 20th century is breathtaking.
Love it…please keep it on!
This rich period piece is fascinating! The characters are varied and intriguing. This particular period in history lends itself well to stories of invention and technology . The Knick is wonderfully acted, and the cast is perfect. Please keep this treasure on for another season!
I Love the Genesis of medicine from its infancy on to see where the procedures were and where they are at present, and where they are going. The medicines in there beginning and where they were better and where the innoscence and real wanting to help the sick then unlike now where they want to heal and put us on medicines that are life sentences on death row cause they just want to soft kill us to death. And adding viruses of hiv, aids, syphilis, etc. SO PLEASE RENEW THE KNICK FOR ANOTHER SUPRISINGLY WONDERFUL SEASON AND THE US STILL GETTING… Read more »
I MEANT SEASON!!!!! SEASON!!! SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not cancel this show. Everyone in it is excellent. Very similar to the hospital drama “The London” done by British TV which unfortunately was canceled.
We love the Knick and can’t wait to watch the next one. Please don’t cancel it.
