TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

TNT has an annoying way of getting rid of cleverly written & fun to watch shows that don’t necessarily have to be dark & vampirey & have great witty banter between the actors’ characters. When you actually have to pay attention to the show or else miss something clever. I think that’s why I enjoy “Doctor Who” and “Sherlock” and “The Newsroom” & in the past on other networks, ‘West Wing” and “Studio 60 on Sunset”, “Leverage”. Definitely keep it! I love this show! It’s helped my sister and I connect despite a fragmented relationship. Plus the characters are great and really everything is great!

Please keep!!! There aren’t many shows on anymore that doesn’t have alot of cursing, nudity and you can watch as a family. I watch this with my kids and they enjoy it too. I thoroughly enjoy the show! Please keep it on.

The Librarians should be kept. I’ve been a Kaniac for years now and grew to love Christian Kane and his story. This not only brought out a side of him that you didn’t get a whole lot of in Leverage, but it brought in new characters and faces like John Kim, Rebecca Romijn, and Lindy Booth. The Librarians was an amazing movie franchise but I think the series is alot better. The special effects were AMAZING in the show and Dean Devlin has been and will always be an amazing director. Renew! I don’t think it was enough shows in one season to get the chemistry 100%. Each show was getting better as the characters are developed. And there are not enough shows where the whole family can watch together.
