TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

keep it my son loves this show. We have all the movies keep it on.
Keep the Librarians! Even my kids love this show. Magic and history and exciting smart people working to save the world?! What could be better?? Love it and a keeper. PLEASE!!
Keep
KEEP!!! Love the premise, love the eps, and LOVE Christian Kane!
KEEP! I love this show!
Keeeeeeeep it!
Keep it.
This show should definitely stay on the air- but next season, they should do at least 16 episodes. 10 was much too short- as wonderful as the show was, it could have been better with more time to showcase the new Librarians. I think 16 is standard for most shows on TNT and other networks like it.
Keep the show. It encourages math, science, history, and respect for authority.
please keep!! I love this show. Very smart and funny, but doesn’t take itself too seriously!!
Bring back
Please re-new. <3
Keep!
Please make more episodes! I love it! I want to go back and enjoy the movies now the show is on break. TNT ratings are wrong, keep the show! !
Keep The Librarians! Absolutely love the show and can’t wait for the next season!
I certainly hope that “The Librarians” get picked up for a second season! I was really annoyed that TNT cancelled “Perception”. The Librarians is a good family ,light hearted show. I don’t like reality shows, or cop shows or shows about killing zombies! This was just a good adventure filled show. Some of its silly and that’s great, it’s entertaining!i love Christian Kane, John Larroquette,, Lindy Booth, John Kim and Rebecca Romijn. Thank you Dean Devlin and John Rogers you gave us a great story, again!
