TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep
Loving the series.
I loved the Librarians! It’s a fun show to watch. If TNT cancels theis show I refuse to watch this network. They keep canceling my shows!
Keep it, great show, great cast!
I love it
The librarians was the best show on TV and I can’t believe the season is over. A renewal is absolutely necessary. We need more family shows like this on television. Christian Kane and the rest of the cast were amazing. I love the storylines and I loved everything about the show.
Please PLEASE keep The Librarians!!
Please renew. This show has lots of room for character development, variety of story lines, the chemistry between the actors and their characters is awesome, it’s a show that I am truly entertained by, and as I said on Facebook, it is wholesome fantasy and gets away from reality without being stupid or violent. The writers and directors obviously have some chemistry as well. Give it some time and let go of the need for immediate results and you’ll be a great success!!
Keep! Corny at times -but good series. Just got to know the characters. Let it go one more season.
Love, love it! Can’t wait for it to come back. Great people for each part. Noah Wyle, Christian Kane & cutie pie thief- excellent! Rebecca Romjin & Lindy Booth excel with funny, entertaining writing.
I have loved the Librarian since I first saw the first one. The series has not disappointed at all.
Canceling this show would be a huge mistake! The acting is solid, the plots entertaining, and there is a built in fan-base with both fans of the films and fans of “Leverage” and Devlin. It’s also one of the most-fun shows on television. My wife and I watch it live, making it one of only two shows that bear that honor.
Renewed, definitely. Television needs more intelligent shows. I love it and look forward to next season. I hope I’m not disappointed!
A keeper, in my opinion.
Keep. Don’t cancel. Love the show
Keep the Liberian! !!!
please renew The Librarians!
