TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep Keep Keep
Keep, intriguing spins on classic tales used to educate and enjoy
Pleae keep it!!!
Our entire family sits down and watches this show. And that is saying something with 4 boys, two of whom are teens. We were disappointed that there were only 10 episodes. Please keep it and make it a full season.
This show is funny, sweet and simply put, fantastic. It fills that void that was left when Warehouse 13 ended.
I think the show needs to come back not only for season 2, but maybe for seasons 3 and 4.
I for sure want to keep #TheLibrarians! There are not very many shows on tv that are for the whole family. Plus to have Christian Kane back on my screen is a very good thing!
Definitely keep! Good family show.
Please, keep The Librarians, me and brother love this series! Don’t cancel it!
Keep the Librairians. It is a great show with a great cast of characters and I would love to watch their development.
As I have said many times, the idea of this show did not appeal to me. I fell in love with Flynn and Eve in the first 5 minutes and it just kept getting better. It’s a lot of fun. Please renew The Librarians.
Love it! RENEW IT OF COURSE!
