TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Please please keep the librarians. It is quirky, fascinating and thoroughly entertaining and interesting. Plenty of history and action. A good fit. Even got the grandkids interested and found they were asking about historical events and items presented. Would be a great loss for old and young alike. I love it and can’t wait for the next one. Good, clean entertainment. Isn’t that TV was supposed to be about anyway.
Keep
Keep it!
Keep The Librarians! It is a great show with plenty of room for different episodes! A whole “library” of ideas, so to speak.
The Librarians has been great. I hope we get to see many more.
I enjoyed the series very much. It has decent storylines, with some very good actors, and enough humor and action to keep me watching. Another season, yes please!
Please keep the show!!!!!
This has got to be one of the most ridiculous questions ever asked. First they cancel Leverage. A wonderful show that never lost popularity and even gained more after cancellation, then to learn that Librarians could possibly be canceled as well? They made a mistake canceling Leverage, they shouldn’t make the same with The Librarians. Without Leverage, The Librarians is the only reason I even turn TNT on!
KEEP!
Please renew! I’ve loved every minute of this series!
I LOVE The Librarians! It’s a great show with a wonderful cast. We need more shows like this!!!!
Please keep!!! Great show for the entire family.
Renew the show, please. This is such a refreshing, fun show, one of the few my family and I watch.
KEEP! I love this show!
Please keep it. There are few show I am comfortable watching with my son. The librarians is amazing and the cast is excellent.
Keep it! I thoroughly enjoyed it and the family loved it. Full of whimsy and lighthearted among the heavy dramas out there. I needed a good laugh and this show provided it.
