TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I love this show! It has everything, magic, history, science, a little bit of everything. And it has some really wonderful actors. I have always loved the Librarian movies so when they said that a series was coming I knew that I was going to what it, and I have loved each and every episode. I am also a Very big fan of Christian Kane (a Kaniac, to be precise) and so when I also heard that he was going to be on the show I was so there. I watch it over and over ever night on Vudu. Love this show! Great ensemble, clever writing,and finaly a show where the whole plot isn’t limited to the scope of dull wits, sexual relations or examining grotesque remains! More please!

Please keep the Librarians!!! I feel TNT “cleaning house” is turning out like the Fox Network… They tease you with a show and take it away once you’re hooked. I HATE Fox for this and we currently only watch one show on Fox, you never know when they will just cancel a show. My wife and I really enjoy watching TNT’s The Librarians, in fact we loved watching Perception and Franklin & Bash too. Bring them back… It’s not too late!
I think the Librarians is getting better with each week. I was not in love with them from the first episode. But I am growing rather fond and hope it is not pulled.

Please keep The Librarians in your program lineup. It is so exciting and enjoyable to watch. I miss Leverage too. Dean Devlin is a great creator of the arts.
The Librarians is not only a great show, but the whole family can watch it together. How many series can you count on TV that have you sitting on the edge of your seat and laughing at the same time? The Librarians is a KEEPER!
