TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I love The Librarians! It is a fun show to watch. There isn’t so much “drama” like most of the shows these days. It’s a “sit back and enjoy” show. The characters are great and funny! Please keep the show going!!!!!!
No brainier, it should be renewed. It’s an awesome show with an outstanding cast, supiurb writing and marvelous sets. I was so excited when I first heard about the show and was constantly checking for a premier date. My husband and I are older than than the demographic mentioned in the article and love “The Librarians”.
I am from Italy and I love this show! I love history, art, science and mystery! This show is amazing. Great actors and story! I want to know more about Librarians! I liked The Librarian films first but now i am totally crazy about this new show!!! *.*

As a big fan of old The Librarian show. The Librarians is a show that should be Renew for a second season. Very well written.
Please keep it! This show should get the full 5 season treatment, at the very least! Fun stories, well-paced character development and excellent casting.
