TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

KEEP!! There are so many more legends and myths that can be expounded upon in more episodes, as well as the building chemistry and trust among the characters. Plus two hot women in Rebecca and Lindy.

Absolutely love the show. TNT please don’t cancel it. The writing and directing is wonderful. John Kim’s character can get on your nerves, but Christian Kane and John Larroquette are great. KEEP IT!!!
They should kill off John Kim’s character. I don’t think his character is important. He is annoying.
I love this show! It’s great and catchy and sure parts are a little cheesy but it’s good natured fun and humor and the cast is excellent. Love love love!

I want to be entertained and that’s what The Librarians does. Please bring back the Librarians. Especially Noah and company. Their all great and fun to watch.

Please keep it! There is not enough good shows on anymore that gets your mind thinking. Our young people need to watch more shows like this. Not the trash that is on nearly every other channel. Be different don’t try to be like everyone else.

Please keep The Librarians, it is a great show, with great stories and characters. I loved the original shows, but the series has me wanting more each week. I never missed an episode.
