CBS hasn’t cancelled The McCarthys but fans aren’t going to be able to find any new episodes on the schedule.
The McCarthys revolves around sports-crazed family from Boston. Athletically-challenged and gay son Ronny (Tyler Ritter) plans to finally move away to start his own life. Those plans are thrown into turmoil when his basketball coach dad (Jack McGee) offers him a job as assistant coach — much to the dismay of Ronny’s siblings. The sitcom also stars Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, and Kelen Coleman.
The sitcom debuted in late October and, despite mediocre ratings, the network has kept The McCarthys on the air. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network in total viewership and also has the lowest demo rating of any CBS sitcom this season — including The Millers which was dropped mid-way through its second season.
The network didn’t give the show a full season but did order two additional installments, bringing the first season’s tally to 15 episodes. It remains to be seen if we will actually see all of them however.
CBS has aired 11 of the 15 episodes so far. They had been set to air two more installments, on February 5th and 12th. Now, the network has pulled them and plans to air reruns of The Big Bang Theory instead.
The following week, CBS will fill the 9:30pm timeslot with part of the Two and a Half Men series finale and after that Mom will shift there — to make room for the debut of the new version of The Odd Couple at 8:30pm.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the remaining four episodes of The McCarthys. Also, based on the ratings, it looks very unlikely that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like The McCarthys TV show on CBS? Would you watch the four remaining episodes? If you ran the network would you renew the sitcom for a second season?
OMG this show was so funny.. I never laughed so much in a long time.. the people who didn’t like this show need a sense of humor because that show was gold and the MIllers was funny too… UGH stop getting rid of these good shows..
I loved the show , never laughed so much. CBS never promoted it enough….Hope they bring it back!!!!!!!!
I am so disappointed. I found a show I actually found entertaining and it gets pulled. How about we pull some of the excessively violent shows? Laurie Metcalf is brilliant in this show. At least give us the last four episodes. I know I speak for several friends. We chat about the episodes.
sorry to change tunes here but pull the sucker cant stand the show. glad the millers is gone too.
So disappointed! We LOVED the show and feel that it deserves time to build a following! It has an amazing ensemble cast – their timing is impeccable. It needed more promoting for a new show starting in October. We looked forward to Thursday night and have felt empty the last two. Often, we would watch repeat performance of the shows ON Demand with company. So many laugh out loud moments we wanted to share them and couldn’t wait to be with our favorite new family until the following week! I hope the Network reconsiders – in our opinion this was… Read more »
I came upon this “series finale” website after trying to google the question “what happened to the mccarthy’s on CBS?”. After reading the other comments, I decided to post one and signed up to get emails of other posts. In the few days that I have been reading these posts, it seems that I am in good company. So many others are echoing the sentiments of me and my family with regards to our love of the show. Several posts indicate that they stumbled upon the show by accident. I too discovered the show by accident. I normally don’t watch… Read more »
C’mon people. You don’t give anything a chance. TV has truly become a vast wasteland with constant schedules changing, shows ending and then popping up again months later when you don’t even remember what happened in the last episode. It’s really gotten ridiculous.
Leave The McCarthy’s on the air. It’s a great cast and a funny show – funnier than a lot of the garbage that’s invading our living rooms. Programming has gotten so bad that I prefer to watch movies. The McCarthy’s was a breath of fresh air.
I cannot understand why CBS would pull this show – it is so funny and the cast is great! Of course I still don’t get why the Millers was taken off – I thought it was hilarious- I think someone at CBS is really missing the mark when determining what is funny
I don’t understand why CBS isn’t giving this Show more time to find it’s audience…..I think this is a fun show! Our family watched it every week and we’re really upset it may not come back! It takes a few seasons sometimes for people to hear about it and get use to characters! Don’t cancel!
My husband and I really enjoy this show. It is really funny and the actors are very good. Please do not cancel this show. In the midwest in the middle of winter we are in need of good entertainment.
Can’t believe you’re cancelling this show. Funniest new show in a long time!
Please don’t cancel this show. I love watching it on Thursdays. All the good shows seem to be taken off the air and replaced by other dumb ones. The McCarthys was a great show!
This is one of my very favorite sitcoms! I look forward to seeing the close-knit, voluble Boston-accented family every Thursday, and have been extremely disappointed that “The Big Bang Theory” older episodes were shown the last two Thursdays. I can watch old BBT episodes five nights a week on other channels, but I really would rather see Tyler Ritter and his TV family go at each other. Please keep the show!! “The Odd Couple” looks like another failed try for Matthew Perry. I think he has no charisma whatsoever. Thomas Lennon is okay, but rather than show another version of… Read more »
I thought this was the funniest show on tv, I laugh my butt off all the way through every episode. The writing is phenomenal and even though the show is based on the life of a gay guy, it’s not a huge issue in the show, It kind of normalizes it. I never new Laurie Metcalf could be that funny, she is HILLARIOUS, it’s like the rest of the cast are straight men for her jokes. This has been my favorite show since the first episode, and I’m not a huge sports fan nor am I a gay rights guy,… Read more »
I love theMcCarthys…. Please don’t pull it from the line up
Please keep this show going! It is hilarious and it reminds me so much of Everybody Loves Raymond. I agree if someone enjoys 2 broken girls, then why would you cancel this? This cast is great! Please don’t cancel! I beg of you!
not only do I want the four other shows aired I want a second season. I have been tuning in via the internet regularly and feel The McCarthys are part of my family, not to mention the fact I’ve been in love with Joey for over a decade and was overjoyed to see him act.
