CBS continues to look for new hit sitcoms. Last year’s The Crazy Ones, Bad Teacher, We Are Men, and Friends With Better Lives were all cancelled while Mom and The Millers survived. How will The McCarthys stack up in the ratings? Will it be cancelled too or renewed for a second season? We’ll have to wait and see.
The McCarthys revolves around sports-crazed family from Boston. Athletically-challenged and gay son Ronny (Tyler Ritter) plans to finally move away to start his own life. Those plans are thrown into turmoil when his basketball coach dad (Jack McGee) offers him a job as assistant coach — much to the dismay of Ronny’s siblings. The sitcom also stars Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, and Kelen Coleman.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: CBS has cancelled The McCarthys, leaving four episodes unaired.
Final season averages: 1.18 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.46 million total viewers.

Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The McCarthys TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a second season?
This show is super funny. My wife and I get excited to watch the show and spend the whole time laughing. Please don’t cancel it just because some people don’t find it funny. I didn’t like Lost and look how good that did.
Please give this show a chance! Every new sitcom needs time to find its rhythm, and this one found it fast. It’s well written, fast paced, great ensemble cast (great to see John Ritter’s smile on his son’s face!) and not full of gratuitous sexual themes or overtones (a la 2 1/2 Men – which is unwatchable – they tell the same jokes over and over – we get it – they’re all whores!) There isn’t much out there to watch that I really look forward to, but this is one that we record, watch, then watch again. And I,… Read more »
I completely agree…I was lukewarm at first, but laughed all the way through the Christmas episode! Please keep it going!!!
This is the only show that actually makes me laugh!!! Don’t cancel!

This show cracks us up, actually makes us laugh out loud. My husband and look forward to it and record it every week. Please don’t cancel this show!
This show is hilarious. One of the shows I look forward to watching each week. CBS keep it coming
The show has a number of gut busting laughs in each episode and should be given the time a second season
I have a hard time believing that this horrible show is getting the numbers they say it is. I guess people are too lazy to change the channel or turn the tv off at the half hour
Boo, I hate Boston accents, just shoot me now
Beyond awful
Like a lumberjack chopping down a tree – this show is getting chopped!
funny stuff……………..well acted and well written………..ok; we got who the characters are already; good stereotypical character development. Now let’s have funny stories!
Always wondered how the American people can split himself to follow up this huge number of programs and serials
I have no interest watching a downright horrible sitcom with characters using Boston accents and it’s 100% annoying.
Is the hilarious premise going to be they have Boston accents and are mean to each other? If so, I’m good. I can just stare at the wall.
I feel kind of bad for actors who have to pose for those fromage pictures like in the header. That’s just embarrassing.
I saw the promos and had no interest in the show. Not a family I’d want to spend time watching.
I think the McCarthy’s needs to be cancelled.
